I get that in theory these are higher quality but it just sounds weird to me. A bit in the same sense that when i got some Roland midi thing for PC back in the day i just switched Doom back to adlib or soundblaster because it was just better that way.

Hmm. I thought the Fortress track first on the playlist sounded utterly fantastic. I know what you mean though, there are some samples that sound weirdly distinctive and if feels a bit cobbled together, whereas the compression kind of levelled it.

But that’s only in a few parts of what I heard. I think it’s well worth a listen.

It is mentioned that these samples were probably selected on the strength of their compressed sound, not their original sound. So it’s not necessarily true to Koji Kondo’s original intention.

I like the strings of the title track, pretty impressive improvement. :)

The Amiga demo Jesus On E's has legendary music, and it was remade a couple of years ago by the same artist with full quality versions of the original samples. It couldn't be a more accurate remaster.

It's not a patch on the original.

Wow when I 1st clicked on it I Forrest was just a bit crisper, lol it's only when I went back and further in I realised the difference they do sound great but also very odd at the same time and some bits just sound wrong here and there,. I'm really not sure what to think but anything time I hear the small music I just want to play it and hearing those I still did

I think overall it’s a pleasure, and preferable to any remix. Also I can’t say I’ve listened to the SMW original soundtrack without the game to distract me so I don’t know if it’d hold up any better to critical listening.

Next thing will be the MSU1 patch. I’ve got an SD2SNES so I’ll give it a try at some point.

I’m so down for Pacman 99 like. CE is one of the best updates ever imo.

Looks great, but yeah Geo, I've never got my head around the ghost herding thing. I can't see myself getting a win on this.

The special version of Raiden IV is part of the 30th anniversary plans of the series. The owner of Mikado fronts a band (of old farts) called Heavy Metal Raiden. Members from another band, Fantom Iris, are also involved with the soundtrack. The guitarist and bass player from Fantom Iris are in their early 20s yet they're absolute beasts in Virtua Fighter 1. :awe:

Both bands have streamed live sets from Mikado during the pandemic.

I was expecting something more in line with Raiden DX. I'm mildly disappointed now.

A ost by Heavy Metal Raiden. That's what Iwas waiting for, but who am I kidding - I will buy it anyway.
