Agreed - but it's on by default, isn't it?

You now have marketplace access. Read the sales rules and stick it up there and I'll delete this.

is it worth getting one of these to use with mame or is it not worth the extra £££ for the job mame does with scanlines

No reason to use it with MAME.

They're not conflicting. You can use one with MAME but you'd be spending money on something the emulator can do itself.

^^fixed. My laptop can run most games fine, but if I add scan lines, I get skipped frames/slowdown.

What are these like with a DC?? I am toying with the idea of picking up a DC with some old fighters and sega rally/daytona etc to play on an old 4:3 pc monitor via VGA, just wondering if it is worth the investment??

That will depend on how much you enjoy playing with scanlines. I'd say it's worth every single penny!

I was thinking of getting one of these for mame, and looking at the pics the SLG3000 seems to do a better job than anything ill able to produce via png files in mame and even the new HLSL options

Not strictly true.... there is more to CRT emulation that just scanlines. The HLSL options can be used to good effect if you know what you're doing. I have done some testing of these new options and been fairly impressed with the results.
