Donkey Kong Country Returns

Post by Phyeir »

Anyone else picking this up when it comes out/now that it's out?

I bought this when it came out over here on release and it's a great game, it's exactly what you'd want it to be if you liked the original games. Some of the waggle stuff gets a bit in the way, IMO, but it's not enough to ruin the experience in any way. The difficulty level is still there from the old games which I was glad to see, hate when they dumb-down the classics.

Can you play 2-player co-op on this?

May be a good one to play with the Mrs

That's cool - it was more in reference to the original... which was a pushover really.

Compared to games now, yes.

Used to blast through the games here, too, but compared to action/adventure & platformers now where I can't seem to not die, I think it's an apt statement.

I only liked the first DKC. If this game is like the first then I will probably get this. Play it for a few days then leave the wii to pick up a mountain of dust again :P

It's definitely more like the first than the others, but it's not a 1-for-1 translation. The good thing is that you have the classic character line-up with all of Donkey Kong's moves and Diddy has a few add-ons to help from the SSBB game (the jet pack for a temp jump boost). Plus the co-op is better as you now play simultaneously and Diddy has his peanut guns which is cool.

Played co-op (w00t!) through the first couple of levels last night and it seems pretty good so far. Nothing particularly groundbreaking as yet but that's probably not it's intent.

The controls are **** me off a bit though. I don't want to have to press diagonally down and shake the controller to roll or shake it to smash blocks. I suppose the Wiimote is limited in buttons but it would be nice if you could map the actions to buttons on a classic controller.

I've just googled about the above and there is no classic controller support. You've got the options of Wii Remote and Nunchuk or just the Wii Remote held sideways, NES-style. :eh:

Still, should be pretty fun to play through.

I’ve enjoyed the game so far. Not a fan of shaking the controller either but really isn’t so bad in this. If you could handle the New Super Mario Bros then you shouldn’t have a problem with this. Very similar in ways but really does feel like the old DKC.

Apart from having to having to do some controller shaking, this is sounding very tempting indeed.
I imagine just like any control system/style, once ya get used to it, it should be nice and easy. ;)
