I guess that would depend who it's licensed from. If it's from Cave directly, perhaps not.

I actually read somewhere that the missing slowdown in the Aksys release was DEMANDED by CAVE. So I think SuperPang has a point.

Aksys didn't do any programming on DeathSmiles, that was all Cave.

Pardon my ignorance but are the slowdowns wanted (like a forced bullettime aka Neo Geo Viewpoint) or not?

I seem to start getting a soft spot for STGs! :palm:

The purists will tell you slowdown needs to be at least fairly accurate compared to a pcb.

Anyone who isn't a purist but still enjoys shmups will say the same thing.

I'll tell you that causing the game to run at 3 frames a second by powering up and filling the screen with skulls while the score counter goes mental is extremely satisfying

As well as the localisation of text, Cave decided to change the slowdown from the JP port. Significantly.

Cave decided people in the west wouldn't understand slowdown (I'm guessing) and didn't want to deliver something that could be construed as inferior as their first western release (I'm guessing.)

So they optimised the game, pulling out almost all of the slowdown from all modes, drastically changing the way people play the game for score and for survival (it's significantly harder than the original release.)

It's a big enough difference that if you had a DS high score thread, you'd have to separate it between regions.

they should have an option to turn on PCB slow down emulation in the menus that way they can still presume were idiots but give the JPs in the EU the option to play it the correct none gaijin way.
