HD: a modern luxury
I recently downloaded and had a look at the new Castlevania game on XBLA.
It's got pretty small, detailed graphics, which got me wondering, does anyone still try and use their 360 or PS3 on a standard definition CRT?
It must be pretty rough looking, no?

I had the 360 for a whole 2 days before I went off and bought a HDTV.

I used my 360 on a 21inch CRT for over a year before I got my 40" LCD.

Re: HD: a modern luxury
I use my 360 in 1080p on my 24" PC monitor, always have/will.
I did have another connected to my 50" plasma but the days of having more than one 360 are long since gone.

Re: HD: a modern luxury
I have my good old 29'' Sony HD-CRT 720p looks better on it then any LCD or Plasma I've seen.
I also have an old 22'' CRT Monitor that can display in QXGA, which is way higher then the so called
"1080p True HD." A shame that Windows desktop is the only thing which can output that high.

Re: HD: a modern luxury
My modern setup. Until I got my Egret 3 I had a 36" Toshiba CRT which had the nicest image I've ever seen. And before that a 29" Trinitron.
I'd sort of like another CRT though, preferably a PVM.

Re: HD: a modern luxury
I'm not into high end type stuff.
My Bravia is about 4 years old now and well out of date (1080i maximum).
I should be getting a newer Bravia at the end of the year, but these newer models don't have S-Video and the picture from things like my PC Engine is a lot worse than on my older model.
I can only assume companies like Sony can't see the worth in having decent up-scaling on their telly's now as all modern kit is just HDMI.
Good thing I have an XRGB-3 ready to go.

Re: HD: a modern luxury
I could not live with anything smaller now I have my Panasonic G10 50'.
The colours, depth and richness of a HD picture on this is great, esp now its beeded in as I have had it 9 months.
SD dvds and older stuff dont look great on it tough as the larger screen shows up flaws and inperfections a lot more, esp SD tv.
Can't beat a good quality CRT though for older consoles etc but newer stuff needs the HD equpment.
You need to use the right tool for the job at hand imo.

I must have had my 360 nearly 3 years on a 28" 4:3 CRT before I got my 42" Toshiba LCD.

Re: HD: a modern luxury
I'm a big fan of HDTV's with the right source; a good blu-ray, a video game that uses it well. HDTV's are only as good as the input though, they absolutely muller SD content most of the time. HD isn't everything though, I can still be as blown away by a 240p image on a good monitor. I'd like to think I could own a CRT forever for the lower res stuff but that's looking increasingly unlikely.
Basically, you can't beat displaying at the sources native resolution.

I use a Sanyo PLV-Z700 on a 100" screen with my 360 and PS3 for the few games I play on those systems. But the real love is in the Astro City and it's glorious CRT

Re: HD: a modern luxury
im in the minority i have a crt, however in my defence i rarely watch tv. i prefer to fire up a cab and go on a killing spree. i know people whos lives revolve around the telly. sorry not for me. they waste theyre lives sitting in front of a screen watching soaps and other crap, when the could be saving the planet. makes you wonder though. cheers.

Re: HD: a modern luxury
I've never had anything other than a CRT . Aside from the occasional beat 'em up, I only play fighting games and am sensitive to the input lag on most HD TVs. I also watch very little TV in general so I guess it works out!

Re: HD: a modern luxury
My colleague came into my office yesterday bragging how he got a great Full HD tv.
So I asked what he watches on it.
He said (standard) cable tv and dvds ......
I loled.
