Re: Return To Monkey Island
Back in the day I loved all the LucasArts point and click adventures, but nowadays I feel like I've lost some love for the genre. In the past year i've played Thimbleweed Park, and Broken Age, but just didn't feel gripped by them

Re: Return To Monkey Island
I really hope this is going to be something good. With dense atmosphere, witty jokes and subtle references. Loved Indy3&4, Monkey Island 1&2 and DotT, maybe even Sam&Max.
If it can even revive the genre? At least for a short time? For a few more pieces of excellence?
Thanks for the link @cools , interesting read.

Re: Return To Monkey Island
Thimbleweed Park is good, but I found myself having to consult the in-game hints a number of times where I got completely stuck. It felt a bit too open. Thinking back, Broken Age thoroughly engrossed me whilst I played through although I wasn't sure whether I liked the game at the time. Now - yes, it's great.
Monkey Island is one of the rare story based games I've actually completed more than once. It's an utter masterpiece. I'll be picking up Return To Monkey Island ignorant of any reviews or commentary, there's no chance it'll actually be a *bad* game.MrSandman wrote: ↑May 4th, 2022, 9:41 pm I really hope this is going to be something good. Re: Return To Monkey Island
I think what's different about Point & Click games now is that the walkthrough is *right there* if you don't have the self control not to have a little peek on Google.
Monkey Island 2 was incredible when it came out, my mates Dad had a nice high spec PC with a hard drive, so once we'd gone through the horror of trying to make enough memory to load the soundcard etc we were on it for whole days at a time. No guides, no hints, just figuring it out very slowly.

Really looking forward to this if the crazies don't ruin it with all their moaning!

Re: Return To Monkey Island
Played through this on Game Pass.
Played first on casual. I enjoyed my time, puzzles were easy enough. I thought the ending was crap though. Maybe it was a joke ending? So I then played it on hard. Some of the puzzles were better, some worse. I had to check the hint book a few times (
It was the same bloody ending!
Pffft.

Re: Return To Monkey Island
Did the ending spoil all the fun of the story and puzzles? I hate endings that fall short of the fun of the gameplay.nem wrote: ↑January 30th, 2023, 3:54 pm Played through this on Game Pass.

Re: Return To Monkey Island
Well, no, I wouldn't say that. It's definitely worth playing through, especially if you're a fan. Decent writing, nice production values. I just think the finale could have been much stronger.

Re: Return To Monkey Island
There's only one ending that's distinctly different (well two, if you count the one where you drown). I actually got it when I chose not to believe that the ending to the game was real and backtracked.
The rest (eight or nine) are just three second videos after the credits.

Re: Return To Monkey Island
I didn't know that. I finished the Steam version and got the ending that most people got (similar to Monkey Island 2).
Playing again on Game Pass so will try and get the other endings. Thanks for the heads up.
