VF5 Ultimate Showdown

Post by SuperPang »

"Virtua Fighter is coming back. On June 1, 2021, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown will debut on the PS4. As expected, it’s a new look at an old game. However, one unexpected developer is behind it. In addition to Sega AM2, Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) is working on it.

This new version of Virtua Fighter 5 is a 60th anniversary project that uses the RGG Studio Dragon Engine. Its opening cinematic is all new. Character models and graphics will be remade. There will also be new UI, online elements, and music for stages. When people play online, there will be options for up to 16 people in a lobby, with some able to watch others fight. There will also be round robin tournaments."

Happy to see VF5 getting a new version, that being said as an Xbox owner I'm a bit bummed out that this is an PS4 exclusive

You're paying $60 a year to have this game added to your subscription for as long as you're paying.

It's good. It's VF5FS but prettier. Online seems generally decent over the course of around 20 matches but I've had a couple of dodgy connections. Wish it had a proper Quest mode though.

It looks great. Not usually one for online play but VF has always been my favourite fighting series and is one I’m not completely terrible at so I might make the effort to get back into this.

£24.99 but the only offline modes are Arcade, VS and Training I think. You need PS+ to get the most out of it. £20 for 3 months.

It's a bit like the old quest modes but with real people. No sweary American teenagers to contend with.

I bought a PS4 just for this. It was a good deal.

The producer, Seiji Aoki, hinted that something is coming in June. It's probably this:

If you are used to the old game, some of the character's remodelled faces don't look right. Akira, Aoi and Sarah are very good examples of an esthetic downgrade.

I had the same thoughts at first, but I very much prefer how this looks compared to the digital only console version on PS3 and X360. No complaints from me.
