I've got wood!

Post by slapaham »

So, I picked this up today - it's taking the place of my previous woody (the Playchoice) - I always wanted a Neo cab - and it's one of the few woodies I genuinely like - this will tide me over until I can afford or get the opportunity at a candy one!

It's very nice and working. No carts included but the 4-slot was. I need to have a tinker around with it tomorrow but all in all, looks like it doesn't need a great deal doing to it!

Some crummy photos of it... I'll take some pics of it in it's new home eventually.

If you're going to get wood - it may as well be MVS wood.....

The sports is one of the better ones to get - more affordable than a lordsvale and not stupidly big like the Electrocoin pink 6-slot monster
2 * Vewlix Diamond Blacks,2 * Vewlix-F, 1 * Sega Rally 3, 1 * Video Pinball, 1 * DinoKing (JAMMA Converted).

Neo wood is about the only wood that I'd go for, to be honest. I don't like Lordsvale cabinets - Electrocoin ones are nice though! I think I got a good buy. Amongst all the Japanese cabs, it's nice to have a Western-style cab with American-style controls!

Got 3 mini marquees for my carts as well which was a nice little bonus! :D

In it's temporary home until I move it this afternoon. Given a quick clean. Need to get the old alan key set out as I wasn't provided with the keys for the locks (buggar!) and I want to amend the button layout (some fool swapped one of the buttons over messing up the Neo button colour palette!) and also, want to fill the mini marquee spaces and remove the slip of paper one that someone put in there! :D

I also remounted the 4-slot - it wasn't attached and had actually snapped off the tray - it was incredibly lucky it didn't get damaged or broken - it's nice and secure now anyway! Also, fixed the credit counter - wasn't working before - the cable had obviously come loose on the mobo and the prongs were all bent - used a blunt knife to bend the prongs straight again and re-attached it - voila! all working! Also, tested the coin mech and that's all okay - seems to be the original 90's one as it will only accept 20ps and not 50ps (they're the only 2 coins I've tried so far!) - and from memory 50ps have changed shaped but 20ps haven't!

I will take some 'up and running' photos tonight. At the moment I've loaded it with Windjammers, Magician Lord, League Bowling and Tecmo World Soccer 96 - this may change though. The reason for these choices is that they aren't covered on my boot cart which resides in the Egret 2. However, I may swap them about as I may decide they have to match with the mini marquees I've got. It depends on how OCD I feel! :awe:

Get a six slot in there!

Looks in nice condition, fair play. Not to my taste (the marqueeless Lordsvale is the only woody I'm a fan of apart from some of the other dedicated single game cabs), but you had a bargain there.

Just fill it with a six slot, 6 sports titles, swap those two buttons around, and get the matching mini marquees for ultra-OCD goodness.

Thanks people! Well, without the keys, swapping the buttons is a pain in the ****! Managed to get into the marquee area to fill it though. I'll probably leave the buttons to be honest... I tried and failed and that was a real chore trying! I can live with it - perhaps one day I'll sort it. ;)

Totally agree - stupid number! it should be either 4 or 6 not bloomin' 5!

I have to say, I never thought I needed it but having one woody feels good. It feels more 'British' and nostalgic (which makes sense!) - playing this cabinet brings me back to the days of playing a crummy old arcade cabinet at my old youth club, going to the seaside and other general blasts from the past. :awe:

Anyway, here she is in her new home. Wheeling out the Playchoice to make room made me feel a little sad as I realised I'm going to miss it but I definitely think I made the right choice! ;)

I know what you mean mate. Sometimes while I'm playing SF with my Astro I stab myself in the back and steal my wallet to recreate the nostalgic Italian 80s arcade ambiance.

Nice cab, but doesn't the 2P button layout (being different from 1p) drive you insane?

A little... I tried to amend it but without the keys it's been difficult. It obviously can be done but for now I'm just going to leave it. When the OCD kicks in I'll have another go! ;)

I meant the position of them (and the colours)

Electrocoin used to do that a lot. I actually completely remade my old Goliath panel it annoyed me so much!

I assumed that some fool swapped the buttons around. All the original buttons seem to be present just in the wrong order!?!
