Nanao Astro City monitor right side taper on the picture

Post by drboom »

I’ve tried to trouble shoot this with the monitor adjustments but cannot seem to find a way to correct this. With the monitor in its vertical orientation, the picture tapers to the right so that the right corners, top and bottom do not fit to the edges.

This is a Nanao 29 in an older Astro City. It sounds like there is a factory service menu in later models but I do not see the same controls for mine. Hopefully someone knows how to get into that menu or can let me know the best way to fix this otherwise! If it helps, the monitor has been recapped and works perfectly otherwise.

I don't belive there is any service menu. The MS8 is completely analog in terms of adjustment (pots). Assuming pincushion, pin balance, trapezoid and parallelogram are all set correctly to the best you can make out, you can probably correct the corners with some small magnets, but you will need two types as correcting the geometry may also throw the color purity off. Search YouTube for Blast City convergence or similar to see what I am talking about.

Do you have the jumper set to wide or narrow?

Key point in the original post is that the monitor is in tate, so if the "picture tapers to the right so that the right corners, top and bottom do not fit to the edges", it should be fixable with adjusting trap, which is VR1 on the daughter card.
