MS2933 vs MS2931 flyback

Post by mufunyo »

Are they the same flyback? Upon first glance they look extremely similar, if not identical. I have a gooped MS2931 flyback, and I was wondering if replacing it with the pristine non-gooped flyback from an MS2933 would be a good idea. Tia!

According to the part numbers at least, they should be different. The MS2933 flyback is MSU1FUK202 while the MS2931 flyback is MSU1FUS11. There are apparently repro units available but the product page mentions there will be "quality differences", not sure what that means in the context of a flyback.

It looks like the MS2930 and MS2931 at least do share the same exact flyback in terms of product number, so we'll try transplanting that to see if it helps. Unfortunately, my MS3930 flyback has also gooped, so I'm not sure how much better that will be. If problems persist I'll order the repro MSU1FUS11.

What do mean gooped?

If you mean the black, tar like substance, it doesn't originate from the flyback. It's potting compound from a nearby coil.

It means the picture quality won't be as nice as with the original flyback.

Ahh, I thought it was potting compound from the flyback itself.

Understood. So the original part is preferred as long as it still works.
