Sanwa 27Z21C anode cap / flyback

Post by system11 »

Does anyone know where I can get a new flyback or anode cap for a 27Z21C monitor? 27" in a Time Crisis 3, the cap is some rubbish domed thing which has let sea air in and the anode clip is corroded leading to lots of arcing.

The clip is just soldered at the end. Pull the wire out from the rubber cap and you can desolder the clip or just cut the end off.

I have replaced them when one side of the clip has snapped off or they're corroded like the one you have. This is why I save otherwise faulty flybacks. If you don't have a stash, take one from a discarded TV. There's nothing special about the clip or the rubber dome (although this said, some are better quality than others. Since you're swapping it, swap for a nice one.).

They're going to take weeks to arrive but I found a supplier in India on Amazon that has new caps. Talk about hard to find..

The anode contact on European TVs and arcade monitors is usually of this type and doesn't lend itself to being swapped due to the crimped ferrule which isn't easy to remove and/or reuse:

On Asian flybacks the contact is of this type and is very easy to swap. Other than on Japanese arcade flybacks it is found on PC monitor flybacks (as most of these are made in Asia):

If you can't get one easily in your whereabouts I have them (from Italy).

I've swapped one of those that had a crimped ferrule as well. I think I just spun some wire around it.

It's the upper type, in fact like this with an odd plastic stalk, but with a white rubber dome cap that makes almost no seal against the glass.

I assume that just cutting it off and fitting the Asian type will work.

I'm thinking it's been replaced before due to the fairly short cable. Looks like there's still enough there though and it can probably be pulled out of that tube. What you can't really tell is the cup is like an upturned bowl, theres only 1mm at best of sealing against the glass and there's virtually no pressure to do so - dust and moisture got straight in there. The dark lines just to the left of the cap that you can barely see in the photo, those are marks from arcing.

Yes, that's a European replacement I wouldn't ever use. If you want the ones I posted above drop me a PM.

Well - today I applied new HV paint as the old was so damaged. It's not very smooth, should I sand it perhaps once cured? I had to apply with a brush, quite hard to make it smooth and it tried to run at one point despite being very thick. Should I touch up the area where it's thin closer to the actual hole or is this good enough? I have no idea, first attempt at doing this. Edit: used a q-tip and added a tiny amount there.

Well now the right side is doing it - massive electrical storm in fact, might be more serious than the cap but that's where I'm starting...
