MS9 Sync Issues (Zero Team 2000 PCB)

Post by SharkSkin-Man »

I don't know if this belongs here or in the Game Hardware section really, but it seems like more of a monitor issue to me.

I recently sold a Zero Team 2000 PCB via the forum and the buyer is having some video sync issues on two of his cabs which I'm hoping to help him resolve.

The three cabs:
  • Sega Aero City - MS8 Monitor - Game syncs and plays fine.
  • Namco Cyber Lead - MS9 Monitor - No sync.
  • Taito Egret II - MS9 Monitor - No sync.

I know that Seibu games typically output non-standard video with a 54Hz vertical refresh rate. So I'm assuming that is the likely root cause of the issue.

From what I can gather MS9 monitors do not have a vertical hold pot to adjust, so I don't really know what else to suggest to the guy who purchased the board. I'm hoping there's an obvious/quick fix to try and would really appreciate any help or info.

I've been sent one picture of what is output on the screen on the MS9 cabs which I'll attach here.

Sorry, I forgot to note - the horizontal hold pots have been tried and apparently make no difference.

Edit: Is it possible for someone to think they were tweaking the horizontal hold pot, but actually they were doing something else? I'm not familiar with the pot locations/layout.

Is there a separate H.Hold for 15khz and 25khz? Maybe adjusting the wrong one?

Thanks for that suggestion @DaveyD. :)

I'll see if that's the case.

I've been told that this is the pot being used, without success.

ms9 can normally sync to almost anything
I would check the video ground is going to pin 14 on the jamma connector
I wonder if linking h and v sync at the chassis may help
