Will try this next, need to work out exactly what I need to do firstmikejmoffitt wrote: ↑January 5th, 2021, 10:24 pm Without deflection you might expect a hole to be burned within seconds.
Use an ohmeter and check that you get some resistance on both windings of the deflection yoke (with it powered off, disconnected from the chassis). This way you can check that your yoke is not somehow an open circuit.

OK So I've pulled it, yoke wires seem connected OK, I've tested the continuity from the yoke to the RGB chassis connector, fine.

Re: Taito Canary playing blind
Hiya,
You would want to put the meter in ohms/resistance mode and measure for resistance between what looks like the red and yellow wires, and the blue and green wires.
If it's not open circuit you should see a different resistance on each pair, if it is open circuit the meter will display 0 or 1 to denote infinity. (depend on your meter).
Happy to be corrected if wrong!

Re: Taito Canary playing blind
That resistance seems low to me (but to be honest I don't know what it should be)
Going by the wiki here I may have got the cable colours wrong.
https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Monitor_ ... asurements
Also I think arcade projects have a post somewhere about what they should be per tube, I'll try and dig it up in the AM.

Re: Taito Canary playing blind
what range was your meter set to?
I would expect to see about 2 ohms horizontal and 10 ohms vertical

Re: Taito Canary playing blind
I'd whack it on the 20 ohms setting and test again, maybe try the different colour cable combinations as well as per wiki.
At least it looks like the meter shows 1 now when it's vexxed

Re: Taito Canary playing blind
most likely expanation is either the yoke is not plugged in correctly or on correct5 pins or the flyback is bad
to lose both vertical and horizontal deflection is quite an odd fault

Re: Taito Canary playing blind
Thanks for all the help so far everyone.
Had a look at this with fresh eyes this evening, I tried testing connections and wiggling sockets... Saw some odd movement on one of the little side boards, pushed it away from the board and the joints are shagged,
3 wires connect here, and what are those 3 wires you ask?
Horizontal
Vertical
Ground
I'll re-solder this later in the week, fingers crossed this is it, because it's been quite the bloody saga

ah mate, that'd be pukka if that's the problem!

Repaired and continuity tested, installed the part back in, still dead.

OK thanks, I'll re-look at the yoke / test if the flyback is duff.grantspain wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 2:42 pm most likely expanation is either the yoke is not plugged in correctly or on correct5 pins or the flyback is bad

I hear nothing at all from the CRT, usually you can hear them fire up, just dead.
Edit, will also check HOT.
Edit 2 - HOT ok, chat tonight yielded good suggestion, will pull chassis/tube and run direct from a stepdown outside of the cab.

Re: Taito Canary playing blind
OK ravepants checked and made some adjustments to the wiring (Thanks again )
Another step forward tonight hopefully, the quite loud buzz is coming from the transformer CVT-003M as circled below, does this shed any light on the next step
