Do you remember what kind of PCB’ that had H.size issues? Not full picture or crazy geometry issues with exploding HOT? :awe:
Mostly old konami games. Vertical size was fine, just couldn't get Horizontal to fully fill the screen. Trivial thing, but you can get a really nice and stable picture with the ms9.

Do you remember if you had size issues with CPS2 or MVS?
Did a full recap, reflow and general TLC to the Toei chassis yesterday and its stable now with excellent geometry and colors.
I will try my spare MS9 just for kicks, but no rush yet.

No issues with CPS2, never tried MVS. CV1000 works great.

Cool! Thanks for the info!
If you had no issues with CV1000 or CPS2, MVS should work like a charm.
Got a repro remote and a custom MS9 harness on the way. Will post a update after I have tried hooking it up.

Very interested to see if an MS9 chassis is more or less a straight swap.

Will be watching the thread. :geek:

As am I  Would make life much easier for TOEI chassis owners as there are pretty much no repair options outside of Jomac, who refuses to deal with anyone outside of Australia.

I need to get some readings off the Toshiba/Toei tube to see what the craic is. Got a couple of options (hopefully) in terms of chassis, got a spare MS9 chassis OR the chassis in use with the current tube (MS8-25?).

Sounds like some of the MS8-25 chassis should be direct swaps? Good to know, I happen to have one of these, and I worry about the chassis taking a dump on me.

I've had success in the past with PNL repairing Toei chassis, but it's about a 50% success rate. I'd just look into swapping to a Nanao if you have a Toei and keep having problems.

Yep, that's what this thread is looking to ascertain with certainty.

Forgot to do a update with my testing… sorry about that.
I tried replacing my Toei Tc-HV25LMK with a Nanao MS9, but since the horizontal was way off (0.48 mH) I had major H.size issues…. Nothing blew up, but horizontal size was way to small to be useful for anything.
Had a spare MS9 yoke and successfully did a yokeswap with nice convergence and geometry using the MS9.

As far as I can tell, if you have a TC-HV25LMK chassis and yoke combo, you need to perform a yokeswap to get good results.

Thanks for the update, with that information I can at least hook up an MS9 and ascertain the tube actually still fires up 8-)

Yeah thank you for the update.

If I have a an MS8-25 (dunno why I’m saying “if”, I have), would a yoke swap onto a Toei tube and the MS8 chassis potentially work or is that too simplistic/naive?

If you have a MS8-25 compatible yoke, It’s worth a try.
It took a couple of hours, but I had no issues with the MS9 yoke when I got the convergence, purity and geometry in a good spot.
Ps. Probably not a Toei tube. Mine was a Toshiba, but had a Toei yoke and chassis combo.

Here’s some pictures from my yokeswap adventure.

At first boot. Yoke was to close to the tube.

Pretty decent if I may say so my self.

Well the monitor in my Canary is an MS8-25 (Tosh tube). I picked up another 25” tube, Toshiba but it has Toei branding. Haven’t got the tube model no but I can get it. So I’m guessing it may have come from a similar Toei yoke/chassis combo as yours.

Pics look great btw.

According to the wiki, Canary’s came with Nanao MS8-25F or Toei TC-HV25LM so I think you can definitely yokeswap with good results.

If you have a knackered TOEI chassis and this is your reason for change I've found someone who works on them, sending mine off next week (based in the US) But won't have any ideas on if they're any good, if the boards are repairable easily enough etc (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=42606&p=557483#p557483)

Until I get it back in a couple of months (rough turnaround)

Ah thanks. I don’t have a chassis unfortunately. I just took a punt on a 25” Tosh tube as they’re pretty difficult to get hold of.
