I have had excellent results just by spraying contact cleaner on an oxidized pot, giving it a few good full turns both ways and letting it dry. Now I only ever change pots when they're physically damaged. A can of contact cleaner costs like 5 euros.

Plain old alcohol works too, that's what contact cleaner basically is. Don't use anything that leaves a residue. If you want a really good result, let them soak in the alcohol over night, give them a few good turns, then leave to dry for a full day.
