Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
Pulled the HOT: pos on pin 1: 0.47 w/neg on 2 and 0.5 on 3
Put the bulb back on and b+ at c830 is still at 184.7v
Looks like something else broke.
Cap at c830 still looks good
Also, the board isn’t making the clicking noises when detached from the tube. I didn’t check before pulling the HOT but it definitely isn’t making clicking noises with the bulb in place.

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
there is an issue on pfx chassis that I only became aware of recently, there are two small coils that have manufacture quality issues- T401 and T403
if you have another chassis then swap out each one by one, its worth a shot and the fault you describe is exactly what they cause
also worth looking at are the hv caps in the horizontal deflection circuit, the issue i could see in the photo shows a very odd geometry issue which could be a bad hv cap

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
Unfortunately, I don’t have another chassis to scavenge from. Taking a look at those coils I also noticed that the pcb around r433 looks a little . . . Toasted? It isn’t quite burnt but it is definitely discolored. Checking the resistor in circuit gave no reading on my meter. Will pull it tomorrow and check off the board.

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
that resistor should be about 82k

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
It’s reading 91.9k. Bands are super faint so I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be.

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
High voltage is c822, c830, c438?
I swapped all of those (except 830, because original exploded) back to the pre-cap kit caps.
I have some lifted pads on a few caps so I put in some jumpers to make sure continuity was good:
Pos leg of c824 to the left side of a7
Middle leg of q407 to the pin of L400 immediately below it on the same trace
C822’s pos leg pad is lifted slightly, but continuity from the leg to R831 and l813 are both good

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
when that resistor fails the chassis runs but you get no picture, i normally replace them with a 5w wirewound 82k
what was your b+ reading using the dummy load, if its still 180vdc then power supply section is good and problem is deflection cuircuit
is the HOT still reading good?

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
Power at c830 was still 184v with the HOT removed and the dummy load connected to the middle trace of the HOT socket. Bulb flowed and all.
The HOT is still giving the same readings. I’m think it was 4.7 or so on the middle leg and 5.1-ish ohms on the right leg.

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
power supply all good then, next you would be looking at hv poly caps but you would need a cap tester to see whats going on, after that you would need to consider the coils i mentioned and the flyback
tbh this will be a tough find unless you had a working same chassis to swap parts from

Re: Initial D Version 3 Question
Late update: was able to source a new (to me) chassis and hook it up. It works, with its own idiosyncrasies. For lack of a better descriptor the “d” setting (deflection of the middle of the screen?) needs to be pulled way to the left and the right side of the image seems slightly shorter vertically than the left. I’m pretty sure people won’t notice if I don’t say anything.
Thanks again for all the help!
Now I need to find the guy who has tips/tricks for reupholstering the seats.
