New Net City monitor not always powering up / clicking
Hi!
I recently purchased a NNC and it arrived with some issues with the monitor. I've noticed that the monitor does not like to power on during the first and sometimes second/third power cycle of the cab. Sometimes I'll just hear clicking coming from the monitor, sometimes just a few clicks, other times repeatedly, like so:
.
Usually after a few power cycles the monitor will come on and I'll get the "No Signal" flash.
Any ideas as to what the issue might be? So far the only thing that has been suggested is to re-cap the monitor. I'm pretty new to the hardware maintenance aspects of cabs, so before I take that step I figured I would see if there might be something else going on that needs to be addressed.
The monitor, when working, does have some convergence/geometry issues, so I'm guessing I'm going to need to mod the remote board to address the later. How difficult is it to remove that?
Thanks for any and all help, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed!

I have the same issue with my NAC monitor. Quite annoying not knowing what is going to happen every time you turn it on. Normally, I leave it on for a minute or so, and then restart and usually the monitor turns on, quite odd.

Two additional videos I took this morning after I opened the cab up. It seems like it's something wrong with the chassis board, but not really sure whether it's caps or something more:
First power cycle:
Subsequent power cycles until finally the monitor comes on:

Really sounds like the HOT needs replacing.

if you look carefully in the 2nd vid you can see a badly damaged disk capacitor-it's split in half

yes and that would certainly cause the issue as that cap is in smps circuitsuperboredom wrote:Good eye! I think I see what you're talking about: https://imgur.com/ocP3AKh

Got the board pulled. No legible value on the cap, but some searching yielded this:
http://www.neo-arcadia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56345
So in case anyone else ever runs into this problem, the cap value for ceramic disc capacitor C808 on the Toshiba D29CQ51 (PB9929) appears to be 4.7nF/1000V
I'll post back after the re-cap.

Re: New Net City monitor not always powering up / clicking
Just to close the loop on this, I ended up replacing the busted cap and the monitor then ceased to come on altogether. A friend did some tests and found unstable voltage. He ended up doing a full re-cap and that remedied everything! No more clicking, no more buzzing. I'm going to create a separate topic on some adjustment questions, but thanks to all who weighed in.
