Egret II Replacement

Post by zak »

Hi chaps,

I was sold the following monitor as an Egret 2 replacement:

Another sticker on the tube looks like this:

I am guessing this is not the correct tube for an Egret 2....

You can use this tube with your MS9 chassis but you'll also need to replace the yoke.

Good luck.

Thanks guys.

I can't do a yoke swap (Don't have the balls or technical skills). As much as I'd love to send both monitors to Grant, it would cost a fortune in shipping.

Will this one work with an MS9 chassis?

The tube itself should be fine, I think my MS9 uses the same tube, it's the yoke you need to worry about, what chassis was on that previously?

Ive got the same tube in my spare egret 2 now with a platform for a ms2932s chassis to sit in. Plus side is that it fits the bezel, but on the other hand its stuck at 31k. Like everyone else mentioned the only way itll work with an ms9 chassis is with a yoke swap. My current problem is the wife doesnt like when i play with high voltages.... So its going to be 31k for a while.

At least in the US its near impossible to find a burn-free ms9 tube. Its seems like the best bet nowadays is to get a naomi toshiba monitor and swap the yoke with a junk ms9 toshiba.

Also, at least in my experience, to hook up a chassis to the tube and be able to rotate in an egret you will need to lengthen both the degauss and ground lines coming out of the tube. For some reason these lines are shorter than on the older ms9 variant.

Unlikely an MS9 chassis will be a straight swap onto that. Unless you can find a tube that has an MS9 yoke already, a yoke swap is likely your only option.

Yes that tube fits perfectly in a Egret 2 but as the others said, you need to swap yoke.
Swapping yoke is not difficult, just be sure that the tube/chassis is discharged, then take it very slowly and carefully.
