Thought I would ask here before I do something stupid....
So I made some modifications to my cabinet and accidentally had the crt's anode unplugged for a while... now there are some small flakes of black dust/grime on an area of the red coating around the anode. Before I re-attach the anode, should I clean that area up and repaint the coating (not sure what chemical it is, Glyptal 1201 according to one msg board I saw?)? Is dielectric grease good enough to put in its place?

Didn't end up being an issue. The gunk came clean off by just brushing it. Monitors working great.
