Hello Guys
I got the said item free the other day, now I know it works but as you can see from the pic there is this overlaying rainbow effect.
This is how it looks like when on the highest brightness but '0' brightness you can make out the rainbow effect in the text
.
My question is if there is anyway of fixing such an issue and if so please advice, thanks.

Re: Sony PVM-20M4E Defect
The shadow mask is held up with quite thin wires, some Trinitrons had others holding it up at the centre which shows up a thin line in the centre or in the thirds of the screen. If you unplug the monitor and rock the screen back and forth you will probably hear the shadow mask hitting the tube.
It looks like someone dropped this or made it suffer some serious G forces on of the wires has broken which is why you are getting the rainbow effect. Trinitron screens tend to be worse for mechanical shocks as I have seen more trinitron screens with the rainbow effect then any other tube, although to be honest I've never seen any triad shadow mask screen broken in this way.
Can it be repaired? No. Although you can probably salvage the chassis if nothing else. Remember to dispose of the CRT in a responsible and green way.
