best 15khz monitor for a naomi?

Post by chubsta »

Thinking bout replacing the monitor in my naomi - no problems with the one ive got but i prefer the 15khz scanline look with mame.

you would need a semi flat tube otherwise you need to change the monitor surround

Thanks for the advice, im intending for my next 'project cab' to have a 15khz from the start but didnt realise the big difference in picture quality on old games using mame between 15khz and 31khz when i bought this one.

That is the easy option of course - trouble is i will need another cab in the near future but i wouldnt have the room in my car for 2 monitors :(

Pentranic QuadSync was the best monitor for 15K, wish they still had some, as it was a nice all rounder..

But yeah your best of with a 29" MS8/MS9 for 15K, but you'll loose 31K, unless you use a C3129A chassis.

I got a WG monitor and it fits also if you can find a 29" Virtua striker/fighter cab that'll fit in a Naomi - you might have to swap the bezel for the Nanao one.

I did think of a using golden tee screen but I think the screen curvature is wrong.

Just keep an eye on ebay for a 29" woodie and gut it.

If its for MAME use 640*480 @ 60Hz VGA and MAME scanlines and leave it as it is.

Im not convinced about the scanlines option in mame - it doesnt look as good as on a 15khz and for some very weird reason that i cant fathom i keep getting controller lag when using it - this is on old games on a 3ghz dual core with 4gb ram btw...

I ended up paying £150 delivered. The chassis is supposed to be pants but Jomac does one that'll fit so if it does go pop I'll just get one of those. Its boxed NOS - dunno if he has anymore.

Could you get us some photos of what your screen looks like with the fake scanlines? I'm wondering if you're comparing a particularly good 15k monitor and a particularly crap 31k.

The lag I'll blame on Windows ;)

Cant do im afraid - i only have one mame board at the mo and as ive just slipped a disc cant really go swapping it in and out - take my word for it tho, those scanlines look rubbish, and ive tried loads of different ones!

I’ve seen the fake scanlines on a Nanao using XRGB & they looked very good.

I’ll eventually try the fake scanlines in Mame vs 15k on my Nanao, but not today
