swapping sanwa 29e31s for nanao ms9

Post by virtvic »

I have a Naomi with a sanwa 29e31s and I want to swap it out for a Nanao ms9 I have just been kindly given by Spence (buttonbasher) :awe:

I noticed that the square plug on the nanao carries the power for the screen AND the power for the degauss AND the colours from the jamma connector (rgbsg)

My Naomi plug only carries the power for the screen and a remote degauss.

I can easily rectify the problem with the colours, but the power to the degauss is a bit of a worry. What voltage does it need? 230 or 100v?

Would it be ok to run the screen with no degauss (I'd rather have it active)

Or... can anyone sell me the correct lead?

cheers

After looking at both monitors for ages, it "looks" like I could just swap over the chassis'

All the plugs etc seem to fit and the neck card also fits - BUT!!!

I'm not stoopid enough to just run this - I'm not crazy. Can anyone on here confirm that this would work. I guess not, though...

Is the Sanwa monitor not a semi-flat, and the MS9 curved?

The yoke specs are different either way...

Arses!

I've just put the tube in and the monitor surround hits on it. I'm thinking that I could mount the tube BEHIND the mounting bracket?

This isn't going well. :(

EDIT-

Harumph! I've taken the damn thing out and put the old one back in. I just need to sort out the width issues with it as they are driving me insane.

The nanao needs smaller mounting bushes as it needs to sit further back i think, the white plastic things.

You were right first time bud. :)

The Nanao uses the short ones, the 29e31s are the longer ones and the PFX uses ones somewhere in the middle.

Hi Mr V

When you pick the bezel up tomoz, remind me about the plastic spacers as im sure ive some that go with the monitor.

A NAOMI with an MS9 sounds like a very sexy cabinet. :awe:

I don't have those bushes any more, its just an old picture I have. I would hazard a guess that the larger diameter section is 3-5mm.

ms9 and es31 specs are almost identical-should work fine
can't vouch for any geometry issues though-you would have to see what happens

Cool, I'll carefully try it out tomorrow.

A mate of mine came round and we've been playing Donkey Kong JR all night

I've just tried the ms9 chassis with the sanwa tube and it does seem to work, but with a lot of crackling noise at the back.

I'm just not going to risk it.

I'll make up some new plastic bushes for the correct tube tomorrow at work and put in the correct tube.

Franco - I made up some 3mm spacers and they are 10mm too small. I reckon you may have got the sizes of the pfx and ms9 mixed up?

No worries, though - I'll just remake some tomorrow.

The monitor is awesome though! Excellent colours and I managed to get the geometry nigh on perfect :awe:

Thats strange. I'm 99% sure the smaller ones are for the Nanao.

The 13mm ones are definitely for the PFX as I turned some of the longer ones down to 13mm.

I have had a few 29e31s's and have had a few sets of the longer bushes. I have only had one with the Nanao monitor and I have only had one set of the shorter ones.

That's odd!
I have the correct grey Naomi bezel now and there is a 10mm gap in between screen and bezel. The back monitor box fouls on the monitor cage too. Were you fitting the nanao with a Sanwa bezel by any chance?

I made some cheeky spacers a minute ago anyway!

Odd indeedz.

Nah, I have always had the right bezel for the monitor, the curvatures are different and you would get uneven gaps if you mix them up.

Its strange you say about the mounting frame fouling

It this the normal Nanao MS2932S found in Naomis and is it in a standard Naomi mounting frame?

It's a standard Naomi frame and I don't know exactly what model of ms9 it is.

Maybe it's a different model to the norm?

I'll post some pics tonight....
