Advice needed: Selling Konami Windy with necked monitor

Post by docky »

I need to sell my Konami Windy with a necked monitor, but I have no idea of how much money to ask. Could anyone give me any guidance on where to start?

As far as I'm aware the Konami Windy 1 is pretty uncommon, especially with a complete panel. Are there any good places for selling this type of thing?

Here is a good place to start :)

It really depends on the condition of the cab and cp.

Edit: yes it's uncommon. In general rarity goes:

Sega > taito > Namco > capcom > Konami (last 2 could be a tie) there are a few in the UK.

Edit 2: you are in the us aren't you? If so the value will be less. 29" CRT (27" in the us?) are a lot harder to come by.

A quick search on past posts shows Mr Docky as being based in the UK.

A great shame that the monitor is necked, but if you've kept everything (including the yoke/degauss/chassis) then I believe you could swap in an MS8 or 9 tube with the right curvature.

Really depends on the condition of the cab though - cig burns/yellowing/refurb paint jobs. A good Windy nowadays I'd expect to see getting between 600-800, but with a dead monitor I'd personally not go more than around £300-350. If it was the chassis then more, but getting a replacement tube is not the simplest of tasks.

Thank-you so much for your advice, and thanks markedkiller78 too!. Yes, I'm based in Cambridge in the UK.

There are some scratches on the side, but otherwise it's in good order. It's lived in a smoke free household for about 12 years. I haven't touched the cabinet since I necked it, so everything is still in place.

Inside I have made a Jamma to SCART adapter and a small amp, and manually wired up the sticks to PS1 controllers. I could probably sell this part separately. You should be able to still hook up a jamma board directly.

In terms of delivery, I presume that's managed outside of the payment?

If you're in Cambridge you really should speak to andygeezer. He could replace that monitor for you at a sensible price, or alternatively take the cab off your hands. I'd be interested in the cab myself as I'm just up the road in Ely, but I'm not really in the market for another candy atm...

I also live in Cambridge and if you want shut of the cab I can move it into storage (I have a garage in Chesterton).

If you want to get rid of the cab as is feel free to contact me.

Sorry but, 260$ ? Really ? :eh:
That's a crazy price imho, especially for a b board only.

I think the best thing to do is get some pictures up. If it's nice, clean & original you'll get it sold no problem. Hell I've always wanted a windy :awe:

It is a high price (they go for around 10k in Japan) but still pretty reasonable shipped.

This is a picture from about a year ago. I'll get new photos and photos of the monitor tonight/tomorrow if I can! :)

Retronut, wow! I'd definitely be glad to chuck a bit of money at you if you were willing to store this in your garage for a few months while I figure out its fate. I'd hate for it to end up in bad hands because of a rushed sale.
