Hi, looking for an original Astro or New Astro 2L8B aka Neo-Geo layout.

Must be in excellent condition (no rust, no repaints, no reproduction materials) or NOS.

Button & stick population doesn't matter.

Thanks in advance!

Was there ever a genuine 2L8B astro city panel? I thought they was all either modified 2L6B, or repro?

I thought it was the naomi era where they started with genuine 2L8B panels. Obviously a Naomi panel fits on an astro, but it's just the overlay you would need to sort

I think you're right @DaveyD , also never saw a genuine one. Afaik there's only the 2L6B and 2L12B ones which are genuine.

I don’t think there’s a Sega one. My Neo layout one is a licensed panel, presumably by Sanwa as it has mounts for JLF’s.

I have a genuine 2L8B overlay on mine in the

layout.

Not for sale, just saying.

Thanks for the info guys.

I swear in all my years have seen 2 versions, the A (or 1) on thumb version Pang is mentioning, and then one that is a straighter arc similar to the Egret 2 2L8B. If anyone has any reference photos to share that would be great.

To echo PhillV – I do believe it was a licensed panel. But I would assume it was Seimitsu over Sanwa. I have other NOS licensed panels and they are the same licensed Seimitsu panels with the lock-tight sealed screw-in buttons and LS-32s.

That's the one I have as well. The 4th button is slightly higher than on a 12B panel, otherwise the holes line up.

Here's a couple more. Not sure if either is official. The flatter E2 style might be a custom from a blank unpunched panel, as the buttons are very low on the CP. Other is a modded 6B panel I beleive

That last one is probably the best angle of them all.

In case of Sega cabs you are not looking for a "Neogeo" layout, what you want is a "Spikeout" layout, as @SuperPang said, there are 2L8B original panels, I had one too which I bought from a guy at the NG forums looooong time ago:

But these were way more common on Blast City cabinets as the original Spikeout setup consist in 4 Blasts linked togheter.

There are many cps which people usually think they are Sanwa when in reality those are Seimitsu licnesed, those come with mounting brackets for "Seimitsu VF" plates where you can also fit sanwa JLF's but true is that these are not made for that joystick in mind but for the Seimitsu LS-55/56 with the VF mouting plate.

True Sanwa licensed panels are quite rare, only way I know to identify a true Sanwa is to peel off the overlay and look for the elephant logo engraved at the corner.

Pretty weird layouts. I take it you don't have these panels? Second panel one is definitely hand punched, because the leftmost button hole is spaced farther than the rest. The first panel one is odd. Maybe something River Service had made? Although I've only ever seen their panels with their own overlays. The overlays mimic Sega ones, but are never branded as such.

I’ve got the first one. It’s had the back resprayed due to rust, but my guess is it’s a Seimitsu panel looking at the mounts.

Do all the button holes have the notch at the top?

Its only the later panels (NUC/NC/NNC) that have the notches at the top of the holes

Had to check, but you're right. I thought they all had that notch, but nope. Blast panels also have that notch (at least the ones I have), but none of the Astro ones did.
