Dreamcast padhack trigger lag confusion?!
Hey guys, I'm working on all these pad hacks now and one of the easiest is the DC one, but I read that the triggers have input lag. Now I can't really find any info wether this appears if you hack it and use the connections for the triggers to assign buttons to it. It's impossible to have input lag I believe if you have signal and ground and it's just digital on/off. Am I missing something here, or is it just wire soldering, hook up to the CP and brawl??
Do I need to find third party **** or use the stick to hack instead?

If the triggers are analogue, then you need to "trick" it into thinking it's digital (i.e. either full on or fully off) using a resistor. Not sure about lag, but I guess there could be an issue if a high enough resistance is not used...
I think some third party pads use non analogue methods for the triggers.
As to *what* resistor to use, you'll know better than me; I'm just good at parroting (repeating) info I've read previously.

No Resistors needed.
Look at the PCB & see the 2 black square ICs where the magnet on the trigger hovers over.
Holding the pad with the top at the top, you will see 4 pins on these ICs.
Solder a wire to the top Left pin of each IC. Then when you couple it to a ground, it will fire. No lag whatsoever, as it goes from off to fully-on in one button press.

I had already done that John, also according to the slagcoin diagram you have to do it like that, but then again if you look on the list at the DC controller it says "lags", it's also something that confused me. I was also thinking the same way you are explaining it, on or off, could be no lag imo, but the word floating around and not able to find a solid answer got me confused. Thnx for clearing it up

Re: Dreamcast padhack trigger lag confusion?!
I've heard this repeated many other times and I can't for the life of me believe there is any lag. I've never noticed any. If anyone can link me to a good article/explanation that would convince me there there is notable lag, I'd greatly appreciate it.Psykick wrote:...according to the slagcoin diagram you have to do it like that, but then again if you look on the list at the DC controller it says "lags", it's also something that confused me.

Like dj_johnnyg said, You don't need a resistor, I made up a couple and had no lag on the triggers.
This is where you need to solder:

Re: Dreamcast padhack trigger lag confusion?!
The triggers do lag, if only by a frame or two. Certainly not noticeable by normal people but on the highest competition level in fighting games it does make a difference, particularly with regards to timing simultaneous button presses. See this Shoryuken thread posts #1 and #24 by Toodles.

Buy an arcade stick and steal the pcb out of that!

Re: Dreamcast padhack trigger lag confusion?!
Surely the arcade stick pcb will have lag too?
They use the same IC's, just a different board layout
