Recommended Cabinets to Minimize Input & Display Lag by EXA

Post by ArcadeSTG »

I came across this article from EXA Arcadia:
Recommended Cabinets to Minimize Input & Display Lag
https://exa.ac/en/2019/02/19/inputlag/?v=04c19fa1e772

Long story short:

Faster (For Hardcore Customers)
Vewlix C (768p)
Vewlix F (768p)
Vewlix VS (768p)
Vewlix Diamond Black (1080p)
Lindbergh Universal Refurbished (1080p)
Noir Full HD (1080p)

Normal (For Casual Customers)
Lindbergh Universal (768p)
Noir (768p)

Slowest (Not Recommended)
Vewlix L aka AMI (768p)
Vewlix Diamond (768p)

To be honest, this triggers a few questions to me:

A) I wasn't aware of a 1080P Lindbergh cabinet. Refurbished means that Sega sold or installed 1080P monitors to those cabinets at some point?

B) Vewlix Diamond. Is there any evidence of the amount of lag of the two monitors of the Diamond?

I gathered available specs of monitors on the following table.
thanks Derick2k (from arcade-projects) since all input lag measurements were took by them.

There is also a thread of a Lindbergh cabinet upgraded with the LG 1080:
arcade-projects.com/forums/ind…ded-with ... 0-monitor/
Is that what Lindbergh Universal Refurbished means?

Does anyone know the panel model of Black DIA to look for the specs?

We talked about this before, that list is completely useless. On par with the other quality informations.

I couldn't see a DVI-D connector/cable in the Diamond Black.

Do you just have to use a VGA to DVI-D adapter?

This is what I found relevant to the topic in the Exa thread:
Shou wrote: September 27th, 2019, 9:37 am As previously said, there are many revisions of monitors. In all of the Diamonds that we bought, it had much worse display lag than C or F.

We tested with Leo Bodnar 720p and 1080p on all cabs on our list.

When we have some time, we will do the tests again with all models and monitor builds that we have on hand
EOJ wrote: September 30th, 2019, 11:16 pm 16ms = 1 frame. 3 frames of total input lag (=48ms) is the max acceptable lag for an arcade game IMO. The CAVE PCB games have 2 frames of lag, for comparison.

I wish they would include some actual lag measurements with these.

I just bought a regular consumer LG 32" computer monitor today. The bezel is small enough on it to throw it inside most cabs as is (without removing the casing). It's been confirmed to have 4ms of lag.

Sorry that's not hardcore enough. It would've been with 3ms.

The new classification is inconsistent with their previous classification. Did they measure wrong the first time? Did they measure right now? Are they going to show the numbers?

Well, you can't know if the screen has been swapped.

Although this said, someone on Twitter did say something about additional lag compared to PCB. From our testing a stock Vewlix C / F adds one frame.

You are right, one cannot know if the screen was replaced just by looking at the picture. But even if we knew the screen model, the lists are inconsistent between them. Maybe there is a third listing where Diamond Blue is classified as decent in the future, who knows.

To be honest, the listings, in its current form, are not helping. There is nothing to support (or undestand) the clasification.

They use M2's lag measuring kit apparently. Clearly they've done some more testing in light of complaints about A&B. I think a Vewlix F/C will be perfectly adequate if things are OK on the hardware end. I wonder how many frames AK Shin has? More than 2 I bet.

It's also the same kit that they used to claim that AtB performs as well as Battle Garegga on a stock F. I'm sorry, but that makes me question the kit and / or whoever is using it.
