Removing Impress Monitor
So I took a leap of faith and bought a Capcom Impress from yanton on ebay.
Of course, the cab is yellow as hell and makes high pitch wine when turned on. (Is that the psu or the monitor?)
I want to take the monitor out to try de-yellowing the cab while I get it serviced. But It looks like the Chassis is screwed into the back frame. Does anyone have experience removing the monitor from a Capcom Impress?

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
I don't have any experience removing one, but I suspect it's easiest if you just disconnect everything that connects the chassis to the tube. So anode cap off (remember to discharge for peace of mind), neck board off, dag wire off neck board, yoke connectors off chassis, and that's probably it. Where's the remote on these cabs?

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
The remote wires to the inside of the CP and is screwed down/ there are detachable pins there so I can take the monitor out and get the remote back in the original place. Just screw the remote in and replace the pins.
Sort of uneasy about this monitor having no frame.
I guess it's just gonna be sitting on a towel with its butt in the air while the board gets looked at.
So after I discharge the monitor, it's safe to just grab the anode cup and pull it out? The motion's kind of like pinching right?
I suspect you might be right about me having to detach things because of there a second door on the back of the cab that lines up with the anode cup.

That's right, however, not all anode connectors are the same. Sometimes it's easier to push one of the pins with your discharging tool (screw driver) and then pulling the cap off. Do you have any CRT tube you could practice on?SailorLodestar wrote: ↑July 25th, 2019, 11:41 amSo after I discharge the monitor, it's safe to just grab the anode cup and pull it out? As for what to do when it's out, sitting it face down is perfect. Just mind the neck.

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
Thank you.
So I got the anode cup out and disconnected some of the wires going from the tube to the chassis. How do I disconnect this board at the end of the neck? or do I just unhook the wires and leave it on?

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
When ever I removed an Impress monitor the first thing I would do is remove the power supply, I see in your pic it’s still there. It would be quite easy to neck the tube with it in.
The pcb on the end of the neck pulls off, it’s a socket that slides on to pins on the end of the tube.

Cool. I’ll take the psu out before continuing.thegreathopper wrote: ↑July 25th, 2019, 7:28 pm The pcb on the end of the neck pulls off, it’s a socket that slides on to pins on the end of the tube.
How does the pcb come come off? Does it twist in some direction? Does it slip off in some direction?

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
Thanks. Um. Which axis?
Spin clockwise, counterclockwise, slip right or left, up or down?

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
Axially, i.e in line with the main axis of the tube.
This is a side view of a CRT without the neck board.
Note the pins at the RH side of the CRT. They are in line with the axis of the tube, in this view orientation they are horizontal.
This is a photo of a chassis neck board and the socket which slides onto the pins of the CRT.
Here's a photo of a neck board that has been disconnected from a CRT. Obv the user has then tilted the neckboard towards the camera.
Just pull the neckboard in line with the axis of the tube. It may help to wiggle/rock the neckboard very gently.

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
Ok thanks. Yeah, I just found this video.
At 7:35. I got the psu out and those other cables disconnected so this neck board should be the last thing before I get the monitor out and can tackle this cigarette smell/staining.
I'll let y'all know how it goes.
Thank you for everything.

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
One other thing, best if there are two of you to lift the monitor out and also if you do it on your own lie the Impress on its back.
Good luck and just make sure you don’t get caught on a cable.

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
Thank you. Yeah, I wrapped a bunch of the detached cables so they hopefully don't get caught in anything when I pull the monitor out. I'm also waiting for my wife to get back to work to help me. With the neck being exposed this really isn't the monitor to try to move on my own.thegreathopper wrote: ↑July 26th, 2019, 7:43 am One other thing, best if there are two of you to lift the monitor out and also if you do it on your own lie the Impress on its back.

I'm happy the impress monitors come with handles on the frame.

Re: Removing Impress Monitor
Pls when you reassemble the unit do not forget the two gnd wires from the tube to the neck board. Also pay attention when you remove the psu, it is near the tube neck.
