Deathsmiles II and JVS to Jamma

Post by peg »

Hi,
I have a working Deathsmiles II Cave PC and I'm trying to figure out how to connect it to my New Astro City. Now I understand that DSII is JVS, which the cab does not support and I've never had a use for until now. It did come with a JVS-Jamma adapter which is a Sega 838-13683-93, it looks like this (not my pic:

Anyway, I can get all the buttons on my cab to work using this converter but cannot get any picture. I'm currently plugging my DSII into a crappy LCD monitor VGA at the moment and I get a picture on that so I know the DSII works and I can play it awkwardly with my cab controls but glancing over at a LCD sitting on my floor.

I tried plugging the VGA from the DSII into this adapter but the picture is garbage on my cab monitor. I'm guessing because this board doesn't actually convert 31Khz to 15Khz video? Otherwise what is the point of the VGA connector on this converter board?

Anyway, thanks for any help!

No, this does not downscale 31khz to 15khz, you need a seperate downscaler for that. The use for the connector is purely the interface, jamma vs vga.

The SEGA adapter you've got is generally used with a Naomi which can output 15k.

Yeah I figured it would be something like that. Is there any adapter that can convert 31k->15k or any other options besides just plugging it into a separate monitor that accepts VGA? Thanks again!

Any thoughts on using the ultracade uvc with death smiles ii? Looks like a simpler solution than using the mimo genius ii assuming I can find one.

That would be a good solution. Finding one may be tricky.

Or it's used in a Blast City which can accept 31khz through the jamma connector.

Is a tri-sync cab out of the question, Peg?

You'll need it if you're going to buy the CAVE releases on Exa Arcadia.

Chances are looking slim for an official EXA downscaler :(

Long term that would be my plan but right now I'm pretty strapped for space so it's not really an option at this time.
