6 buttons on Taito Egret 2
Hello!
I have got my Taito Egret 2 up and running and it is 90% restored at the moment. I was wondering how I go about getting 6 buttons connected to the original loom? As far as I can tell it only supports 3 buttons and one goes to an 'S' connector. If I buy this loom (see link below) will it work plug and play? or will I need to modify the jamma side?

Thanks in advance

Re: 6 buttons on Taito Egret 2
No. The JAMMA standard does not support 6 buttons per player. The solution depends on what you want to achieve. Playing CPS2/3 boards?
If so, get something Ike below. The crimped ends go directly on to buttons 4, 5 & 6 and the connector on the other end plugs directly in to the game board. There are also adapters to convert the CPS2 connector to CPS1 or Namco, Midway...

If your machine is wired for 4 buttons per player the fourth button can be wired to both the original wiring and the CPS2 wiring at the same time.

Re: 6 buttons on Taito Egret 2
i think i could be wrong the taito harness is wired for 4 buttons ? if you want 6 button set up per player you need to add a kick harness to ad 4-6 on each side ,this connects directly to the board and not the jamma harness itself
<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

OK. yeah it seems to be wired for 4 buttons. I have a greater understanding of it all now. I will need to have a kick harness on each set of controls. I was hoping there might be a way to do it another way.
Thanks guys

Re: 6 buttons on Taito Egret 2
The E2 is wired for five buttons from the JAMMA edge. Button 6 is connected via the S connector.
Take a look at the [E2 wiring diagram]
All six button inputs are wired to the ten and 15 pin JST YL connectors as can be seen in the bottom RH corner. Only button four on pin 9 is labelled 'Spare 1' but you can see that pins 10 and 11 are also populated.
Pin 9 (button 4 / Spare 1) and Pin 10 (button 5 / Spare 2) are both connected to the JAMMA edge.
Pin 11 (button 6 / Spare 3) is connected to the two pin JST YL connector.
So , for something like CPS2/3 you either use a standalone CPS2/3 harness like the one above or you can make an adaptor something like the one below which just plugs in between your game board and JAMMA harness.
I used to be able to make these but sadly I don't have any Hirose connectors/pins any more for the CPS2/3 side of things so I'm unable to.

Does that mean the Egret 2 supports Atomiswave 5th button by default?

I think I've got some still. If you're not in a rush I can dig them out and post one next time I'm at the PO.

Thank you very much! Very kind of you! Let me have your PP details and I'll make sure to cover your costs. I could do with 2 if you have 2 of them?

Re: 6 buttons on Taito Egret 2
It's hard to say but that looks more like an CPS2 adaptor for a cabinet that is wired for six buttons from the JAMMA edge.
They're simple to make though. You just need a pass-through adaptor and a [Hirose DF1B] connector wired to the [CPS2 Kick pinout] < check the table half way down.
The E2 wiring diagram is [here]
As you can see the E2 is wired for 5 buttons from the JAMMA edge. Connect the 'Light' and 'Medium' inputs from the Hirose connector to the appropriate pins on the passthough (pins 25, 26 / c,d). The 'Heavy' inputs from the Hirose connector go directly to the two pin JST YL connector, this then connects to the 'S' connector of the E2 which is in the base of the cabinet and can be seen in the top centre of the wiring diagram.
