NNC surround yellowing

Post by SuperPang »

Is this unavoidable?

Just noticed my NNC monitor surround is starting to yellow a bit. I bought this NOS 6 years ago and I'm pretty sure everything matched back then, unless I'm going mad. The CP upper is the original and that has remained white, as has that bit in the middle (I forget the correct term) which was also NOS at the time. :wtf:

Unavoidable. The cp surround is composite material and the monitor surround is ABS if I remember correctly.

**** sake. This'll be like watching my hair go grey.

Possibly a silly question but lighting won't make a difference will it? I changed to LED bulbs in there earlier in the year.

Nah, it happens no matter the conditions. Even keeping them in storage they still yellow (short of storing them in a temperature controlled vacuum, maybe)

Retrobrite will bring it back to normal for a while but I think it will keep coming back.

A friend of mine had a pretty good looking White NNC in storage ( dark room) for about a year while he was abroad, when it came back it was completly yellow. Mine is Standing right on the window with direct sun light and it has about the same yellowing as yours, really odd material.

You should see mine, also NOS from ~6 years ago. Granted, I've had mine in a room with a lot of sunlight exposure. I've given up.
