My heart breaks for you.
It's definitely good advice to test cleaning products on inconspicuous areas first, then let them dry, before doing the whole thing.

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
Oh man, never use high concentraions of h2o2 on anything for restoration, cause it is like you are burning the plastic(you oxidise it and thats what burning does). And yes, only use retrobright and oxidizers on white stuff. Oh and always do a test on a not visible spot. Wen using h2o2 try at first lower concentrations.
I think it would be no problem to polish the bezel with plastic polish to its former glory I think.

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
It yellowed, so I thought it would help, big mistake. I'll try to sand it first, I have tried Novus 3, and doesn't really eat that much plastic, Then all three novus. Will try to update. And never use this H2O2 without diluting it.Shadolf wrote:Oh man, never use high concentraions of h2o2 on anything for restoration, cause it is like you are burning the plastic(you oxidise it and thats what burning does). Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
try multiple grades of sand paper and when it;s as smooth as you can go with sand paper then move onto Novus 3 then 2
hopefully you can get it back to looking nice
failing that it will be smooth enough to get a nice paint finish

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
I think polishing only is all it takes in case of a yellowed bezel.
Wen you sand it, the finest paper should be sufficient, there should be no need for multiple grades of paper. And polishing with a machine will give you a nice result.

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
Yup, no problem, happy if I can help someone from doing the same. Lets see if next week, I can sand and how it ends up, otherwise I'll start looking for replacement.

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
Why not sand it down, get the same color and re-spray it? Then you will get a surface that is like new.

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
Not sure but I think the bezel is not painted, I assume it will be better of possible to just sand down till get original color and then polish.monouchi wrote:Why not sand it down, get the same color and re-spray it? Then you will get a surface that is like new.

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
The stepped edge will make sanding difficult and who knows how deep the bleach has penetrated the material?

Re: Monitor bezel peroxide destruction
Why sand it back? Has the hydrogen peroxide textured the surface in a way paint wouldnt cover?
