Taito Canary PSU problem

Post by robotype »

I have four of these ETX951C5J psu (not sure if they are used in other cabinets? maybe egret29 or mm5?) problem is on all of them I measure a very low tension on -5 and +12, about half of what it whould be...and I hear a clicking noise. the +5V works normally. Anyone have similar experience? tomorrow I will open one and see if I can figure out something, any suggestion is welcome.

I found out the clicking noise comes from a diode called MA649

Did you know that an Egret 2 PSU also works in a Canary? ;)

yes I know, actually I have both egret II and canary missing psu :( do you know where to get an egret II psu?
If I can fix these faulty canary psu I have here though I will put one in the EII, it fits perfect

there is one for sale on the forum somewhere or maybe taitotech would be a good option , price wise id go with something of decent quality that wasnt original !

<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

I would definitely go original but I'd be happy with the canary psu if I can fix them I'll put one in the egret II as well (these are made by matsushita by the way)

Manimani had some mint PSU for Egret 2. Maybe he has more.

I want to try and fix these canary switching psu first, I strongly suspect the super fast diode MA649 there's a number of equivalents on the internet but just to be sure I bought a couple original ones. the weird part of this story is all of my 4 psu have the same exact problem but no one else in the world ever had this problem... :wtf:

ok the situation is becoming sci-fi...I got another canary psu from a friend to do some comparison and guess what...same exact problem
I'm obviously missing something here. I suspect some wiring is cut in my cabinet, the +12 line is divided in two sections, maybe I should try short them or something like that

fixed! they all work. they have a sensing circuit to detect if there's load connected otherwise it lowers the voltage for protection but my cabinet was miswired on the 12 line so I had no clue...
