Actually a 29" Japanese screen is only 27" is you measure the viewing area.
A 27" Wells Gardner screen is exactly the same size as a 29" Nanao, so maybe these are easier to find?

Protip: tube type numbers are standardised and metric, so an A68 tube will always fit a 29" cabinet. The letter denotes the type of industry, like medical or military. "A" means consumer market. The rest of the letters/digits also have meaning but I forgot what exactly. Anyway, with TVs you can usually peek through the ventilation grille on the back of the set to see the type number printed on the tube. That makes it easy to identify replacement tubes at thrift shops, recycling centres etc. without having to carry a ruler or screwdriver.

Unfortunately any Japanese cab other than 29" is hard to find, highly sought after and hence very expensive. Friendly sizes in between 18-19" and 29" are 25" and 28".

Check the tube size chart here as I've mentioned what cabs are used by each size:

UK built Virtua Striker and Fighter sometimes come in the 29" (A68) variation.

I've replaced my MS2931 in a blast city by a 29" Philips TV, perfect fit inside the frame, tube is 5mm closer to the bezel and requires so adapt it (haven't done it yet).

spmbx, maybe it would be an option for you to build your own candy?! I have thought a lot about that. 29" cabs I would clearly go for original cabs. But if you are capable, its easy to build a Pony Mk III type cab or something like that with Jamma and a Sony Trinitron 21" or 25". You get those easy here in the EU and they have a nice picture. You can easily stock on those TV's, they are cheap and you don't have to think about the tube fitting to your bezel and stuff. Just sayin there are other options if the main purpose is playing and you don't mind original japanese or not. Yes empathic, I hear you sayin "the forum is only for stuff originated in Japan" ;) .
