PS3 running inside Blast City/NAC
I've seen a few people have managed to get an XBOX360 running on Jamma cabs.
This is something i would like to do, but i am primarily interested in running PS3.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so, how? Would it require some kind of interface?
Also, if anyone knows about the 360 too, i'd be grateful. I can't seem to find one hard and fast way to do it.
Thanks a lot

Re: PS3 running inside Blast City/NAC
Well the way they do the 360 in the Blast City is with the VGA cord. Set the video to 640X480 VGA in the system settings and plug the VGA cable into the VGA port on the Blast City. If you have an auto switching synch chassis you're good, but if you have a manual sync you need to set the dip switches for the monitor to VGA. Use the stereo audio from the Xbox 360 VGA cable in the Blast City amp. For controls, you can either run the controllers to the Xbox 360 and play it like normal or you will need a padhack box which takes 2 wired controllers and uses the pcbs inside to map the buttons to a JAMMA fingerboard for buttons 1-3 and to whatever kick harness (usually CPS2) for buttons 4-6. The front of the padhack box usually locates the home menu button.
PS3 is the same as the Xbox 360...except you will need wired USB controllers if you are going to make a padhack box.

Ok, so it's literally just a case of VGA cable and then setting the resolution on the console?
If so that seems very straightforward. I have the official VGA cable for the XBOX, will see what i can track down for PS3.
Thanks a lot for your help

Yup. Just the cable and setting the resolution. The only part that gets hairy is making a padhack box. You can buy a padhack box from someone who makes them or if you just want to use the controllers instead of the control panel on your cab you're all set.

That's great thanks.
I seem to be having problems finding a VGA solution for PS3.
Is there an official cable, or do i need some kind of HDMI - VGA converter?
Thanks again

I didn't think all PS3's were compatible. I thought you needed an NTSC model to output at a compatible resolution.

There's no official cable...you'll either need to use a converter or a 3rd Party aftermarket cable. Here is a link to one for the Wii & PS3:

I've never used a PS3 on VGA though.

PAL/NTSC issues
Although PS3 is supposed to be region free when it comes to games, Sony still managed to separate hardware and software into NTSC/PAL regions. If you live in a PAL region this is bad news because:
You have to import a PS3 to get 640x480@60Hz (480p) in XBM
Online games will be laggy, because they generally connect to servers in the region they origin from.
Some 31k Arcade monitors will handle 720x576@50Hz (576p), which is what you get from a PAL PS3, but it's not guaranteed, and you may have to adjust V-HOLD.

Thats good to know, thanks.
There's no problem in sourcing an NTSC PS3, but do you know what cables would i need then to hook it up?

Same directions as in first post except you might need a Step Down Converter to take the voltage from 110 to 220.

PS2 AV cables will work on the PS3, but first to need to reset the video mode.

Re: PS3 running inside Blast City/NAC
I got good results with HDMI->VGA off ebay, they're like 10 USD..
The info on the jvspac site is true for component->vga cables, not sure how "PAL" ps3's behave when connected via HDMI->VGA..

Re: PS3 running inside Blast City/NAC
Thanks a lot for this info guys.
I could get a picture on the tri sync monitors after adjusting the XBOX resolution but i could keep it stable. Every time i resized it it disappeared (lost sync?)
Pretty frustrating, but I found a couple of machines with flatscreen crts in them. These worked fine, but they both have issues that need looking at.
If anyone has any ideas about these monitors i'd definitely be grateful!

Re: PS3 running inside Blast City/NAC
Done a bit of messy with this over the weekend and successfully got XBOX, XBOX360, PS3 (all PAL consoles) working well with a MTC9000 monitor (15KHz).
