Konami Windy II Vs Sega New Astro City

Post by Cat »

I read on the net the Konami Windy II have one of the best monitor in Candy Cab.

Is this true?

I understand the New Astro City's monitor may have the "Black Goop" of death problem.

Does the Windy II's monitor have any known problems?

Which is a better candy cab to own between the New Astro City and the Windy II?

Thanks & kind Regards

If you are going to play 15khz games, I would go for the NAC.

I understand the windy II's monitor supports 31khz? high resolution

I prefer a mother with this high resolution option

My other worry is that the monitor in the new astro city or the windy Ii may have some problems like crack, burn in etc.

is the wei ya monitor comparable to the monitor in the Windy II?

I can buy a new wei ya monitor and swap it with the monitor in the new astro city or the Windy II

You have the luxury of a buying choice on candy? Lucky. I just buy what I can get round these parts.

NAC is common and loads of help available if you have issues, plus the CP is more common to track down if you need a replacement. I've only messed with the Windy 1 and the chassis is mounted to the cab, not the monitor...not my fav style there.

NAC gets my vote for being easy to fix and get parts for. Unbeatable image quality too on the 15K front. I have one cabinet with a ms-8 and 2 with ms-9 setup.

Hi

Get an Astro City / New Astro - quality screen and chassis. Toshiba tubes which go forever, and Nanao chassis

Blast City gets the black goop issue, as they use the tri res version of the nanao chassis 15/24/31k - these chassis are not natively used in the Astro series machines unless someone has converted one themselves.

Astro/New Astro city are dual res 15/24k, i.e. don't experience the goop problem you've read about.

If it breaks you're not getting it fixed.

Best curved tube trisync picture there is though.

Do you have a choice between the two? Windy cabs are pretty uncommon and most people don't have a choice between the two. I would avoid the Windy unless you have tech skills or experience with cabs already. It's like owning a vintage European sports car. Parts are hard to get and expensive, the design is overly complicated and they can be finicky but god damn they are pretty.
