Should I keep Pony IV or sell toward Egret II
Just wanted to get some outside opinions. I have a Pony IV in nice condition. Have some interested to purchase quick for 450. I'm also looking at an Egret II in "ok" condition being sold for 1000.
What do you think? Egret II worth the price? Definitely needs some TLC. But isn't it the most sought after Candy cab?
Pony IV monitor is perfect, but plastic does feel a bit cheap.
Opinion?

From all my years dealing with many different types of arcade machines the best advise I can give you is that monitor condition is the most, if not the only, important part of the cabinet, so keep the one with the best monitor.

Re: Should I keep Pony IV or sell toward Egret II
I take it all your prices are in USD since your sig says you are in USA? What needs doing to the Egret to make it a good example? Yes the Egret II is sought after, and if you bought it and refurbished it into a good machine then you wont have any trouble selling it on in the future. How much of a profeit/loss you make come the time to sell it on will obviously depend on how much it cost you to refurb it.
Are you looking to swap as you prefer the Egret II over the Pony IV, or just because it is a sought after machine?

Keep the Pony ffs, monitor is 75% of the cab. There's nothing special about an E2.

I've owned a Pony IV and stood within 10ft of an E2.
If you get rid of the Pony for an E2, you WILL regret it. If you think the Pony feels cheap, just wait 'til you see an E2 up close.
HTH,
Ralph.

Only do it if you're looking at it aesthetically and you prefer the looks of the the EII over the Pony. But in that case you have other options as well the EIII and the Atomiswave SD are essentially the same cab (minus the rotation mech). Otherwise keep the Pony IV. Yes, the EII's fetch a bunch of money, but there's also plenty of them out there (at least compared to Ponies). I too wanted to swap my Sega cabs for EII's but I came to my senses and am super happy about my row of NAC's

Re: Should I keep Pony IV or sell toward Egret II
In fairness it is the ugliest pony of them , rainbow dash is by far the best one to have
I all seriousness ,e2 is sought after for the rotate mech mainly ,i don't agree with ralph ,the E2 doesnt feel cheap.
monitor is king though ,cant believe it hasnt been said yet , why not keep the pony and buy the e2, if its rough try drive down the price , parts all, 2-3 of them are scarce and side art replicas have never really matched the the originals

The rotate mech is nice, but its not like you're going to rotate it every day. If you do get it make sure the monitor is good and you don't have to resort to repro art for everything. MS9 is a nice monitor though.
Just let me know what you decide. No worries.

Nothing cheap about E2, very solid welded construction with painted plastic parts.
Monitor is most important and the MS9 monitor is king.

I know what Ralph means about the E2 type models vs other cabs, its not quite as bomb proof. Keep the Pony

that is not fair Aero Cities are built like a tank, any other cab is like a toy in comparison, similar cabs also made of metal from other manufacturers don't even come closer . (although, I talk from my own experience with a few models of Taito, Jaleco,Konami, Capcom and Irem cabs).

The Pony IV is mostly plastic, unlike the earlier models that are metal.

Re: Should I keep Pony IV or sell toward Egret II
The rotate mechanism of the EII is nice, but IMHO the key point of the EII is its connection to Taito HEY and Taito Stations. Somehow, an EII is like having a piece of Taito Hey at home and that is awesome
On the other hand, a NAC is like a piece of Try Amusement Tower, which is also great
