Screw-in buttons glued in?

Hey everyone.

I got an Aero city panel a long time and I've just now started cleaning it up.
The problem is that the buttons are the screw in type and it's seems they've been glued in?
I can see some sort of dried, red liquid seeping from the sides of the buttons.

I just can't get move the screw nut without moving the whole button.
I think I can get them out with the pliers, but I don't want to ruin the buttons.
I tried with one of the buttons, but the pliers started scraping it.
The buttons are old, but I don't want to destroy them if they still have some life in them.

Any ideas?

Try cutting/scraping and removing the adhesive with a craft knife or flat screwdriver before turning. You can apply enough pressure using just your hands. I've found that removing the nuts is actually more difficult using pliers/vice grips as it's easy to apply too much pressure and squash the nut, making it tighter. Try holding the nut with one hand and turning the button by the microswitch with the other rather than trying to turn the nut and see how you get on.

There isn't much of the adhesive to remove.
Still, I scraped away what I can, but no go.

I don't know it's because I got big thumbs, but I can't seem to grip the nut without getting in the way of my other hand turning the button.

Do you think acetone will be safe to pour on the buttons?
I've already tried some rubbing alcohol and didn't see to do anything.

Acetone will soften everything, the glue and the button.

Are you trying to save the buttons? If not, I would dremel them. Otherwise, good luck!

That's probably Loctite.. The glu will break before the button does..
I had this problem in a Xarcade Tankstick.. Let's see if I can find a pic of it.

Happ style button.. I was holding the screwdriver in the switchholder part just to keep it from spinning then turning the nut with the wrench..
