NAC key & lock problem - need advice
I've been negotiating to buy a NAC from a local arcade and met with the boss today, but there's a snag: he has 5 machines and only one key for all of them!
I said he could sell one to me with all locks open, but it's a bit problematic, especially with the CP sitting raised.
I'm unsure about locks on cabs generally - how difficult are they to take out and replace? He said in 20 years he hasn't found anyone who can copy the key, which is obvious - but he doesn't fancy my chances with regard to replacing 5 locks. And I'm inclined to agree.
It's certainly not the onpy opportunity to buy a NAC here, but it may come cheap and I inspected the monitor today and it's totally burn free.
Any advice appreciated, many thanks.

You can get the keys from YHJ, assuming it is a Sega key / lock.
Failing that, you can buy a full set relatively easily.
£20+ for a key
£50+ for a full set plus key I think?
I'm pretty sure I have a full set here.

the locks remove very easy too - if you have it open, you can replace it with bare hands, or a screw-wrench.

On that note, remove them and tape the doors / CP shut for transport.ninn wrote:the locks remove very easy too - if you have it open, you can replace it with bare hands, or a screw-wrench.

Wow speedy stuff. Thanks all.
The key I saw was sega branded. Has a ripple in the middle. Are they really all the same? As in I can buy spares from YHJ?
That would be easier than replacing the locks.

Re: NAC key & lock problem - need advice
the key has a number punched in at the top.
if you can get that, it will work.
iirc most of the keys are 5380... but you can check that with the NAC Manual: http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/images/9/96 ... Manual.pdf"

Ninn is right.
And the lock pictured above is a Sega 5575 and is used on Blast City and (New) Net City cabinets.
As others already mentioned, keys and locks are easily available on Yahoo Japan.

Re: NAC key & lock problem - need advice
Great, thank you.
Next step is for me to find out the number on the key, and then search for one. If it can be located - and he agrees to sell the machine (not guaranteed yet) - then I'm good to go.
Appreciate your help!
EDIT: I should probably add I think it's weird that there are so many identical cabinet keys. Although it's unlikely, if someone wanted to rob an arcade back in the day (when they were profitable) what's to stop someone buying a key and going around emptying coin boxes?

Lots of operators use a non matching key for the coin box.

Re: NAC key & lock problem - need advice
Assuming the locks in the cabinet are the original ones (p/n 220-5380) the key you're looking for is 220-5381-N "KEY MASTER FOR 220-5380". As mentioned before it's fairly easy to find a key on YAJ. Try this: http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... r=bzr-prop. Also check the marketplace here
Note that the control panel has two locks that need to be unlocked simultaneously so you'll be needing two keys. Though you can easily remove one of the locking tongues.

Re: NAC key & lock problem - need advice
Thanks. Yep, it's definitely one of those, think the rounded handle looks familiar. If he agrees to sell I'll attempt to source a key, and if I'm successful then it's a go. But I don't remember him using two keys for the CP, although I know NACs have two (inconveniently.)

Re: NAC key & lock problem - need advice
Might be he already removed one of the CP locks. Though it is possible to open the CP with just one key but you'll have to bend it a little.skykid wrote:Thanks. Re: NAC key & lock problem - need advice
Is it possible to duplicate these keys in a regular hardware store? IS there any other way to procure locks rather than original ones? I find them overpriced but so far I haven't found any brand that does the exact same meassures.
