Capcom Impress Original Sticks and Buttons

Post by Capaneus »

Hey there, I might be starting a restoration on an original Capcom Impress. I'd like to replace the buttons and sticks with the same ones that came from the factory. From the arcade flyer images, they look like Seimitsu LS-40's, since the shaft is colored. Player 1 has Green stick and buttons, and Player 2 has Yellow stick and buttons. Are my assumptions correct? Also, I see a ton of different codes for Seimitsu buttons, what are just typical 24mm and 30mm snap-in, solid color buttons, the ones that originally came with the Impress?

Thanks guys!

Yes, LS40 as sticks and convex Seimitsu buttons (not sure about the correct number right now) were stock. I'd stay away from an Impress restoration though - they are cursed!

It took me a while to get my cab, but I finally got it! Why do you say they are cursed?

Yeah, mine has a decent amount of yellowing. Anyone out there have experience using retrobright to de-yellow theirs?

If done right (professionally), painting the cab is a good option.

Monstermug did a superb job on his E2 - http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=42767"

Pang's Windy (not sure if he still have that one) also looks fantastic.

My Impress CP was on the right side a bit yellowed and after using retrobright, it became pretty white again, so I can recommend it.

I used a 9% Oxydant and Vanish Oxy Action powder.
I try to find some before/after photos later (.. if I took some good ones).

Please do! I'm looking forward for them, my Impress is yellow as all um... yellow hell. By the way, can you share your exact recipe if possible? Thanks.

I'm not at home before the weekend, so it will take a while, but at least I can give you the photos, which I already uploaded

after (the angle is not the best, but you can see it got white(r) again

The recipe wasn't special. Just activate your Oxydant (I used a 9% one) with a teaspoon of Vanish Oxy action, wait a while until it gets foamy and then apply it on your parts.
Put it out into the sun, wait some hours (1 or 2) and check the results. Maybe you have to do it several times.

Guys, seems like the yellow comes back not longer after retro brightening. Not sure about the Impress (different plastic?), but I've read more than one case about the NAC speakers.

Holy smokes that retrobrite stuff looks to work like a charm (at least short term). Surely you can then cover it with uv protected clear spray paint (clear spray paint even exist?) or something after?

I have a cracked and yellowed naomi surround which I have been testing stuff on. Nail varnish remover is by far the best thing I've tried on it so far as it brought back the white. Prob make the plastic brittle etc but it worked. (please don't cover your impress in nail varnish remover on my non scientific test)
