Triforce Naomi help

Post by IDCHAPPY »

Hi peeps, finally got a chance to get into this cab yesterday at John Bud's house but it didn't go hugely well.
Monitor Chasis looks to be buggered(or the tube but it's definately getting power).
We took all the obvious triforce stuff out to try and get it to boot naomi 2 but it just didn't want to know, we kept getting an options board malfunction when booting the triforce gear( Virtua Striker did boot but kept checking media board?) and then when we put the namoi 2 it said game not compatable with this main board, we have check all the naomi gear on JB's straight naomi cab a few weeks ago and it worked fine.
Does anyone have any details of triforce wiring/cabs incase i'm missing something

Triforce is same as powering up a Naomi or Chihiro.

Obviously putting a naomi disc on there won't work..

I'm under the impression triforce is picky as **** about the Dimm used, could it be that?

It's a virtua soccer cab so game with a card reader, buggered GD rom( my second one of them now :lolno: ) and the triforce game virtua soccer 4, we hooked the monitor connections into JB's working naomi beside it originally to get a picture, found it was giving a gd rom error so swapped it for a working gd rom JB had. Game booted but every 15 seconds or so checked for the media board and kept looping like that.
After trying to figure that out for a bit we stripped out the card reader, and the tri force mobo and tried to run it as a straight naomi cab but had no luck with that either, we coulnd figure out why it wasn't working as a straight naomi, changed the i/o boards about but still no joy... didn't help that it was bloody cold at JB's

anybody know where the options board is ???

we unplugged the analogue sticks and changed i/o boards, but its still saying options board fault, even when its trying to boot a naomi2 set up. never seen this fault before.

we tested the media board, its fine. we also checked the gameboard again no faults.

any advice would be great.

cheers.

Type 1 Triforce?? If so it refers to the board that sits on the dimm core board, the board you plug the security chip in, chances are it's a bad connection and needs reseating.

You can use Naomi dimm boards, but they have to be 512MB and firm 3.03 or higher.

hi andy, cheers for that

triforce cover is purple.

main boot ver 2.17
main firm ver 0.44
main fpga ver 7.09
net firm ver 12.11

the security chip is pretty much stuck in the slot. i will lever it out, the re-seat the chip. am i reading it wrong or will a bog standard dimm do ??? i have a couple of 3.17 net dimms but would prefer to keep these, if possible. im also assuming that decased the dimms are the same ???

cheers.

I've never had much luck with dimm boards on Naomis and type 1 Chihiros. I was getting option board and media board errors a lot so ended up de-casing the whole dimm board/option board on the Naomi2 and it's been stable since. Still had a gd rom drive die as well though - cf option looks better every day but it's expensive to kit out three drivers and I have a few games for each! :|

Never used a Triforce mobo but I guess the errors are going to mean the same - possible bad connections between the various boards. I do tend to get problems when it's a bit colder though - get the heater on and then try it out!
