Weight of a Vewlix monitor / take out for moving?

Post by The Enigmatic Form »

I'll be moving in about two weeks and consider taking out the monitor of my Vewlix F so it is easier to take the cab down and upstairs. Is it worth the hassle? Of course it is not as heavy as a tube, but it could help. I will definitely take the CP off to make it more handy.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I don't know how long it takes to remove a monitor from a Vewlix but if it was me I would remove it if I was taking it up/down stairs.

Better safe than sorry :)

Wow, 9 years since I posted in this thread. Where's the old man emoji when you need one?

I'm hoping to pick up a Vewlix or two myself, that's if I can get them up the stairs into my office.....

I've got an L shaped set of stairs that they'll need to come up. The lower section is 780mm wide before turning a 90 degree corner and the final section of stairs is 790mm wide.

Looking at the wiki, all models of the Vewlix are pretty much W800 x D800mm. There is no chance of them going upstairs 'as is' but I'm wondering if they would go up when stripped down a little. I've been looking at Penrhos's excellent disassembly guide V1 [Part 1] & [Part 2] and although they don't break down fully, it looks like with the CP removed the depth looks to be reduced somewhat. I might be able to get the cab up the stairs sidewards on if I can navigate the corner.

Assuming the length of the leg is then the furthest protruding part, would anyone mind taking this dimension from their cab for me?

Image

I can then get something modelled up and see if it will go before having 100KG or so to lift up the stairs and finding it won't go.

Speaking of which, does anyone know how manageable a Vewlix is to manoeuvre/lift when stripped down as far as it will go a'la Penrhos's guide? I know they're a beast to move with everything in. Are they that much lighter with the monitor and everything else stripped out?

What you need is a Scotsman to hold it halfway up the stairs while you take bits off it.

This is what I'm trying to avoid :P

Looking at the disassembly guide again, it looks like the cab may also be a tiny bit narrower width wise with the CP/side plastics off. If anyone is taking measurements of the foot 'depth' could they also measure the overall width of the feet too? Pretty please :whoopsie:

RTFM n00b :shifty: :problem:

I didn't expect that dimension to be in the manual, glad to see it is though. Since the last post and looking at other pictures I figured that the 800mm width won't be reduced as the legs are the outer most part of the cab and the drawing above confirms it. It great to see that the 800mm width is reduced to 525mm with the CP off. That's great news, I did a bit of initial modelling and it looks like it should go.

Next step, cardboard template :awe:
