Candy cab riser stand?
Has anyone made a riser stand for their candy cab? I've got a New Astro, and sitting in a standard chair puts me a bit too high for comfortable ergonomic use of the controls. I tried out a smaller stool at a store, and thought it put me at a slightly uncomfortable seating position. I was wondering if there's something out there that people use to raise the cabs, or if I'm just being a wuss and should tough it out?
I thought it would be easy to make a wood box that's about 6" high, which would also make room for a couple drawers side by side to store stuff in.
Any thoughts?
Tom

Sell the candy and buy a standup machine; else just get a proper Japanese arcade stool.

Some arcade OP's in Europe & the US used them so they do exist, you sometimes see them for sale with cabs on ebay.

I believe I heard someone used something off a washing machine under a cabinet to make it a non-sitdown. Or just put bricks under the legs.

I like the idea of putting it on top of a washing machine.emphatic wrote:I believe I heard someone used something off a washing machine under a cabinet to make it a non-sitdown. Or just put bricks under the legs.

Note SuperPangs avatar. Tuck your legs back under the stool.

Wait a minute, there's a stool in SuperPangs avatar? Hey, if you look close enough you can even see an arcade cabinet! Funny how I didn't notice either of those before.

Re: Candy cab riser stand?
im in the mobility industry, and can advise you to seek out a mobility shop they will have leg raisers in different sizes. we use them for seats and beds. they cost about £20 a set, if you get a decent set they will mount 1 on top of another, this way you have different sizes. i totally agree though thats its too weird to sit on a stool and play games. i have a few stand up cabs and sit on a bar stool. i just cant get into real sitdown candies, although im trying to warp my head towards them. to me they just look like the wee fat lassie that everyone in first year pumped. hth. cheers.

If you go to your local hardware store you should be able to pick up furniture legs of various lengths for a couple of £/$ that you can use with a MDF etc board to raise the cab enough to get your legs under.
I had to do a similar thing in our bedroom to raise the TV 6" or so so we could see it over the end of the bed.

Blast & [New?] Net Cities in EU/USA markets sometimes came with the riser things to prop the cabs up to typical American (read: woody/stand-up) height.

Re: Candy cab riser stand?
Hey Paladin, my first batch of New Astros from a couple of years ago actually had custom-made pedestals mounted beneath them, if you want an idea of what other people have done. Only one of them is still mounted here but you can see what they were going for. I ended up selling 3 of them with pedestals to a local friend who still has them attached, so if you wanted more detailed pics I'm sure he'd be willing to help you out!
I'm pretty sure the op they came from in BC did that to all of his candy cabs, since I've seen them pop up in various places with the exact same custom pedestals.

Re: Candy cab riser stand?
Hello Bobby! I finally signed up here, lots of good info.
Tom
Thanks for the pic, that's kind of what I was thinking of building, but not so tall as to make the cabinet a stand up. Maybe just enough to make the cabinet more comfortable to sit at with Western height chairs and my height. Adding a couple pull out drawers for storage would be good as well. I've made arcade cabinets from scratch before, so I guess I should just get some wood and give it a shot.
Do you have any idea of what the top looks like? Is it just flat so the cab leg levelers sit on it, or is there a recessed top so the cab can't slide off. I guess it could also be bolted down to it as well.
