LED replacement for Namco Noir / Sega Lindbergh fluorescent overhead lamp?
Is it possible to replace the fluorescent header lamp in a Sega Lindbergh or Namco Noir HD with an LED tube?
The original fitting for the Lindbergh is an 18w T8 lamp that is 600mm wide. I have seen replacements that match the dimensions, but can they be dropped in or does the fitting need to be modified or replaced for an LED tube to work?

Depends on the tube if they can be dropped in or not. Some can flicker. If you remove the ballast as well, you get better results.
Also, the fit will be slightly tighter than with the original tube, but it's still OK.
This is from my experience buying 230V LED tubes. I have LED tubes in all of my Lindberghs. I'm not sure how they will work in Noirs, because the original fixture is dimmable.

I've still not got around to re-wring my Lind for the LED tube that I got with the cab but did test fit it & its a little tighter.
When my current tube dies I will get on it.

Is it, mine came with a flourescent tube but I have not spotted a dimmer as yet, don’t suppose you where it is, thanks.nem wrote: ↑August 9th, 2022, 9:49 am Depends on the tube if they can be dropped in or not. Some can flicker. If you remove the ballast as well, you get better results.

Or you could always get a loom like this and add some bulb holders.
We scraped a toy crane grabber at work a few weeks back & I managed to salvage it.

Mine definitely pulses when playing Tekken. Also, I think I remember that you could go in to the service menu and adjust the brightness.
Or is there a separate set of LEDs in front of the tube that lights up the header?
I actually haven't pulled apart one of these. I've been meaning to, but I haven't.

That’s an LED though on that blue, my red noir has a standard florescent tube.

And LED,s below the control panel, my CP did flicker but that’s because they were knackered, now replaced with a LED strip.

Instruction space on the Lind is a white cold cathode tube iirc.

Thanks all for the repairs, both of my units still having working tubes but guess I will look into a proper conversion to get rid of the old ballasts .

I looked in to this. HD cabs have LEDs, old Noirs fluorescent tubes.

Old Noir with the flow tube at the top doesn't use a starter so I'm not sure if a led tube would work in it I took at the starter on the Lind otherwise it would flicker.
I'm thinking about getting some of those repro cp instruction led replacement boards off that guy in Denmark but they work out quite costly.
