DonPachi (All Formats)

Post by jugemscloud »

The DonPachi high-score competitions we used to have on IRC were great, but that died a while back. :( I know quite a few of you have boards of this game, so maybe this thread will liven things up again.

Any board (Japanese, international, Korean, Hong Kong), console (Saturn, PSX?) or MAME. Whatever. Be sure to state what format/region you were playing when achieving the score. If there're loads of submissions (yeah, yeah - I know...), I'll split it in to platform-specific boards. For now, everyone will be in the same table.

Name - Initials - Ship - Platform - Score

Code: Select all

 1. Akraten - BAD - C - PCB (J) - 10,620,440
 2. gabe - GAH - C - PCB (U) - 8,420,590
 3. jugemscloud - D.W - A - PCB (J) - 6,220,610
 4. TwonK - MAD - C - PCB (J) - 5,981,110
 5. Aypok - AYP - C - PCB (K) - 4,116,090
 6. turntablism - mik - C - pcb (k) - 3'818'090
 7. Artemio - AUG - C - PCB (J) - 3,073,260
 8. kernow - KRN - A - PCB (J) - 3,019,150
 9. Rossyra - RDR - C - PCB (J) - 2,801,160

Not bad going.

Out of curiosity I just had a look what the world record score is.

Ryougaeshi (両替士) - Type C – 55.882.090

Type C is the lowest scoring ship too.

I never said I was any good and am genuinely expecting to remain at the very bottom of the list (as I do with all other games). :)

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of it in this game - it's a bit too slow, which means I occasionally miss some of the bees (like the bottom-right one on level one). I sometimes play it for a bit before moving back to the A ship - it makes me do better, for some reason. Like playing bass for an hour before playing guitar.

My previous bests (topping out at 3.8 million) are all with the A ship, which is still my favourite. Having said that; level four (which annihilates me) is considerably easier with the C ship due to the side-pods stopping me from dying when ships come in horizontally.

Nice score. I need to start playing this game again; I've been too busy playing MVS titles as of late. Let's see if I can't best my current high-score this coming month. :)

how are you getting on with the chaining? i can get an infrequent 61 on stage 1 and a consistent 54 on 2 but should be able to up it to 57. level 3 i got a 50 at one point that should be able to get up to about 65+ but freaked out as i done it by pure chance. it seems to be that if you think about where to move to continue the chain then its done but sometimes it will save itself on very rare occasions. just worked out the other day how to consistenly get the last lot of ships on the first chain of stage 2 :awe: im generally sitting between 4 and 5mil at the end of stage 3 but tend to make stupid mistakes on 3 that negates the bee bonus (im going for a no bomb 1cc with ship a) and the highest ive got is 7mil on stage 4

tips - having the two thingys joined (when using the lazer) on top of whatever your killing is about 30-50% stronger than the full power lazer and is the same strength no matter what power level your at, its kind of like aura flashing in ibara but not that powerful, and you need to do this consistenly in the loop due to suicide bullets. also full power machine gun on autofire is marginally less powerful than lazer but makes a big difference for chaining and can be used really effectively on the battlesip sections of stage 4, you dont need autofire at all but i started trying it for those sections and would get better chains. if i die then i purposefully suicide one life as you need at least level 3 power to stop everything building up on you.

also c ship is for wimps  check smraedes 1cc with c ship youtube if you are going keep using it, he plays really conservatively though
