Taito F1 problem
I received Don Doko Don the other day. Plugged it in & nothing but a black screen. It was working before it was sent so I dont think it can be anything major.
I checked the obvious things, reseat roms, voltage, -5v, connector, cab. Everything seemed fine and left it for the night.
I gave the board a good inspection & noticed that this cap was loose:
When I played about with it there was some white powder and the prong was really loose. (I pulled it right out without any resistance) Could this be the cause of the pcb not working at all?

Re: Taito F1 problem
Well it certainly won't help and will need replacing now anyway so repair that and then we'll see what else there is.
Have you managed to track down F1 schematics for us to look at?

Re: Taito F1 problem
Just to clarify, it wasn't working & the cap was already loose / broken before I touched it

Think i might have a Football Champ somewhere which i was gonna try and convert to Metal Black. Will see if I can find it and have a look at the board...
Schemes are hiding. :/
Can you take more close up pics of the board?

I'm just waiting on the camera charging. It looks like it's an important trace as it feeds the dips & I'm guessing that nothing going into the dips would cause issues.Devil Soundwave wrote:Think i might have a Football Champ somewhere which i was gonna try and convert to Metal Black. You know you need a F2 mobo?

Well.. markedkiller78 did not show any F2 motherboard in the pic so maybe he does not know it is needed.Devil Soundwave wrote: Explain?

Re: Taito F1 problem
There are 3 "sockets" on the underside of the board, that suggest it plugs into another board
system 16 is worded in such a way as to suggest that the game is an expansion board (again hinting to this needing a mobo) but I've been told that the game was working, as is, before posting.
I guess the first question that needs answering would be, do F1 boards need to be plugged into a motherboard? Is it like F3 were some are single boards & others are carts?
What I have is a single layer pcb. It has a jamma edge on it, so I have no reason to think there is anything missing

Re: Taito F1 problem
Hat trick hero / football champ are on the same hardware. Does anyone have one to check?
I'm pretty sure that the F2 is a seperate system altogether, but there is so little info on the web
I still need to change the resistor regardless.

Re: Taito F1 problem
It works as a standalone PCB, was tested and 100% working, that cap was not damaged when it was posted out - so it looks like it's been done in transit.
Typical - it get all the way from Japan by SEA in one piece and the UK post office break it.

Re: Taito F1 problem
Markedkiller78 why do you think it's a F1 PCB?
Here is my Don Doko Don PCB:
And the motherboard with CPU's and soundamplifier:

Re: Taito F1 problem
System16 is wrong on this. DDD is an F2 title and requires the "long" F2 mobo (in this case, the mobo PCB does not have the JAMMA connector) to run correctly. As the pics show, you are clearly missing that piece.

Re: Taito F1 problem
Taito F2 boards are often sold this way - with no motherboard, here's an example:
http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n84188890"
The seller clearly states that the buyer needs to supply the motherboard.
The shops also sell game boards separately, so it's something to watch out for. My Don Doko Don is exactly like Stefan's.

Re: Taito F1 problem
Thanks for the input guys and sorry for my ignorance. That's exactly what the top board looks like. Anyone know where I can get an F2 mobo?
God damn system 16
what a weird setup. The jamma connector really should be on the mobo

Re: Taito F1 problem
I plugged it into my PANA as it's shown in the picture and played it. I didnt' need anything else - unless I'm going completely mad.

Re: Taito F1 problem
Watch out on that website. it lists 44 games on the Konami GX Type 1, almost all of which don't run on a GX at all. The ones that do run on a GX in there are almost all NOT Type 1 games.markedkiller78 wrote:Is this a more accurate list of F2 games?

That list of F2 games might be accurate, but that overall list is not.
