Anyone with a DOJ should either run it out of the case with battery (like galuda), or run it in the case without battery.
Sorry Kern, not sure I understand - is it a requirement now I've removed the battery to keep it in the blue case? I thought Dave K said it just reduces the lifespan of the board, so I decided to leave it out?
Sorry to hear your board has gone up the spout. The strikes fear into the hearts of DOJ owners. I'm off tomorrow morning to buy a sack of baking soda.
My board really smells like a chip shop now too.

Holy ****, I just stumbled upon this thread, didn't realise DOJ had this problem, just checked mine and the battery is properly fugged and completely furry
Game working ok at the mo so I need to get this fudger out and replaced. Am I right in thinking I need to order the battery with 2 pins attached and I just unsolder the pins of the old one from the mainboard??

Flipping heck, they're all off. Must be that time of the decade.
We should open a warning thread I tell ya.

Looks like this thread came along at just the right moment. A pity we can't put out some kind of 'leaking battery alert' to all DOJ owners!
Various people are asking how to replace the battery - I would recommend snipping it off THEN desoldering the remaining stubs. Then clean up any corrosion on the board with vinegar and/or bicarbonate of soda, THEN gently wash that area of the board and let it THOROUGHLY dry. Finally, use a magnifier of some sort to thoroughly check for any corroded tracks. Remember that if the battery has leaked badly then the corrosive contents will have possibly run to surrounding areas.
I ought to offer a battery removal/replacement service. If anyone would like me to do theirs give me a shout, I'd only charge a few quid plus postage and the price of a new battery (if required).
BTW, if you have the Black Label version of DOJ then do NOT, I repeat NOT remove the battery as you'll effectively kill the board (it's used for protection with the Black Label version). You'll need to replace the old battery using a helper battery OR with the board switched on (although that is prone to problems if you slip or drop anything metallic in the wrong place!). Don't flip switch SW1 either!
Alternatively there is apparently a code fix that gets around the suicide issue with the Black Label.
I think so, too.
And do you think it´s really worthwhile to try another guy for a repair? I fear that´s like throwing money out of the window (although I hope it works out, of course).
For reference, the reason I am smiling at the end of my auction title is because I hate 3rd strike. Its an overrated insult to the SF series. So why do I have this? Well, it seemed worth having until I realised that only 3 or 4 of the charcater roster where actually any good. So, I take it out of storage to sell....and its only gone and suicided on me. Apart from the financial loss, cant say Im bothered, but maybe its of use to someone? Either way, THIS BOARD IS DEAD, NON WORKING.
I couldn't test it fully due to the board not running the game code correctly. However, I did remove the aforementioned resistor SIL and cleaned all the corrosion from it and the board. Also tested the SIL and it was fine.
