The reason for this is that SW1 is used to reset the NVRAM and
the program code requires certain values to be present there.
To fix this behaviour do the following:
. Power up the PCB.
. Hit the test switch to activate Setup.
. Select "Restore Defaults".
. This requires that the battery is not dead.
Don't know what else to suggest. Both yours and sourdiesels boards are missing batteries so it may be an idea.
Seriously hope you get it sorted. The last thing we want is these boards to start dropping like flies.
the thread is called "Ketsui PCB, glitches and EPROM revisions" it was started by rtw. I couldn't find it through the shmups forum, it was found in the Google cache hence I didn't link to it.
sorry mate i was banking on a dallas chip being on that board-there alot of custom ic's on there and my guess is one of the rams has failed
sorry can't help-you need a pcb expert i'm afraid
has anyone else's doj board died outside of the 2 mentioned here ..if not it has to be something to do with the battery ,whether or not replacing the battery now will make a difference who knows could be cps-ish ...how long was it since you powered it up ?was it any longer than normal?

Just to clarify for anyone that's confused (ie me ) - kernow was thinking that I was the guy on Ebay who goes under the name of arcader and/or redacra. That's not me, I use the Ebay name realflight. Perhaps I ought to ask the mods here to change my username to avoid any further confusion.
As for the board, never say never .......... might be something simple like a lifted surface mount pin, a dodgy RAM or, if unlucky, something more tricky like an (almost) irreplaceable faulty custom chip.

I think its pretty safe to say these boards run fine without a battery, as mine did for months before it randomly took a ****. (except DOJ black label obviously)
