Thes hack from Joal is not being updated as far as i can see.
I guess he got bored with all the PM's about people asking for things, or perhaps something happened to him, i don't know.

Fact is, he did a lot of work for this, and then as might have been expected, the price of Bubble Bobble / Super Bubble Bobble boards went up..
Also probably many broken boards suddenly got taken out of the spare parts pile, and i guess that he got a lot of PM's asking about that too.
Joal did not get payed for his work, he did it out of kindness / for the technical challenge i guess.

Joal was seen last year, and does not appear to have logged in for a long time: Last visited:June 27th, 2013, 12:32 am

In my own boards, i now use the Bisboch / Aladar reworked hack. Joal's Redux was very nice, but it still has some (very very) small glitches, and can crash at some random places.
I tried to figure out why it did it, but never got a 'consistent' crash that was easy to duplicate. I think it is related to the dip switches / eprom size setting which is not documented.
On the bootleg, those dips control monster speed. Perhaps the merge of code from original -> bootleg has a problem with that.
Not all bootlegs are the same, so not all of them have the dips wired up to support 256/512 for the program rom.

Anyway, this is not the case with the Bisboch / Aladar reworked hack, which just works fine. And i'm very thankfull for that!

I commend Joal for his hack, as he was the first one to do this, and i never thought it would happen :)

Thanks for Redux!

I'll second that... I also use the Aladars "REDUX-ish"-ROMs and LostCave 1.2 (on my dual-ROM board http://elgensrepairs.blogspot.dk/2014/0 ... -same.html"), but no doubt it wouldn't have been possible without Joal major effort.

Thnx Joal, where ever you are. You Rock };-P

Is there a link for the Bisboch / Aladar reworked ROMs that's I've overlooked? I'd like to check them out. :)

When you talk about crash, you mean reboot problem ?
I've got 2 differents single boards pcb and both have reboot problems. So I'm wondering if it's a technical problem with the pcb or if it's a problem is with the redux version. Recently, I've discover that both pcb works fine with their original bootleg eprom, so I'm almost sure sur now that the problem comes from the redux version.
However, I also have a double board boot pcb and I don't have this reboot problem with the redux version. But I can't find a way to get the complete conversion with the secret room glitch !!! Is it possible to get the complete conversion with a double board pcb ?

When the game finds something wrong with the MCU emulation, it will 'crash' and then the watchdog will reset it to the title screen.
I have seen this on single (jamma) board and double-board bootlegs with Redux, yes.

Double boards were produced with / without the extra roms needed for the treasure room to work.
Since they do not work properly on the bootlegs, later versions removed the two extra eproms that hold the treasure room gfx.
(Guess they didn't care you could reach the boss, the gfx for him are also in there, this breaks the game.)

It is not straightforward to add/fix the missing roms. Usually you can just pop them into the board / add sockets and done, but sometimes you need to fix the ls138 setup and add missing paths..(jamma)

I would like to make update about the reboot/crash problem that you talk, Asure.
I've discovered (with the help of good friend !!!) that all the last redux revision cause the crash/reboot.
I've tried an old redux version (from 2013-02-07) and fortunately, the game runs perfectly without any reboot or crash.
Probably, there is something (into Punji's code) from the last revision who cause the crash ???
That could be interesting to test all redux update to see what version works without reboot (the crash on my pcb did appear every 15mn about)

Anyway, I suggest to use this patch:
http://benjamin.bouloch.free.fr/boblbob ... -02-07.rar"
I've uploaded the patch on my server because all redux links on this topic seems down at the moment ??
(I also confirm that this patch works fine with the double board boot pcb)

Here are some pictures of the secret room conversion from my pcb:

Do you have single or double bootleg boot pcb ?
I know that some patches work on singe and not on double and vice-versa.
I check up the roms and will let you know.

Mea culpa... the link I give is not the patch I've use on my pcb.
Try, this one, this is the one I use and works fine on my single board AND double board:

Hope it will work for you. let me know.

OK and is that the patched roms or do I need to apply them to the original boblbobl roms like in the readme?
Apply each base patch to the corresponding file (same name) from the
"boblbobl" ROM images for MAME. Use the xdelta3 program from
http://xdelta.org/" for doing that, like:

xdelta3.exe -d -s old\bb3 bb3.patch new\bb3
xdelta3.exe -d -s old\bb4 bb4.patch new\bb4
xdelta3.exe -d -s old\bb5 bb5.patch new\bb5
I'm still getting this using new files

Got that working, they are not the patch files but the actual roms themselves.
Thanks for the upload but still getting reboots, this time at the very beginning of level 17
I did notice dips 7+8 work on this version tho so can speed up/slow down the monsters!

I had subscribed to this thread to alert me on my email of any new posts, but it seems like it stopped working (I checked that nothing was flaged as spam), so I never came back here until now! Great to know that LC guys Bisboch and Aladar picked up on my idea / work and released a new pach created from scratch. I'm sure they had a deeper knowledge of BB code, I was only starting to understand it better...

The patch version from 2013-07-02 is basically complete. The later patches fixed some issues with the test mode screen and added some logic to try to reduce some slow down on a couple later levels. It is possible that those changes are triggering another "trap" to catch bootleggers...

Anyway, is there any reason to keep using my patches other than the mods I implemented (score save, level skip and game continue)? I did not try the LC Redux version, but from Elgen's Facebook page, it seems it may have faster monsters?

I played a bit on MAME this morning with the latest REDUX version and indeed it caused a reset on level 18 or so. I tried the version from 2013-02-07 and it worked just fine. So I guess this confirms that the latest images are not good.

I also tried BB Aladar bootleg version on MAME (download link from ElgensRepairs Facebook page) and it does not work. I hear the initial sound and then the screen just goes all black. I'm using SDLMAME v0.156 on OS X (also tried on Windows 8). My initial thought was to port the level skip, game continue and score save mods to that version, but it will be very hard to do it without MAME support...

Same for me, using my own build of MAMEUI 0.156 x64 in Win 8.

I've never tried it on MAME, but on (my) real hardware, the "ALADAR-REDUX" works just perfectly.

New release below (I will forward the binary files to Ian).

I have fixed the random reset at higher levels that was affecting the latest patches. Please let me know of any other issues.
