Sega Naomi Netdimm - forgets free play setting

Post by prefabpeti2 »

When using the Naomi Netdimm (3.03) my machine forgets I have set it to free play and the game wants coins. Does anyone else get this?

I'm using a Sega JVS to Jamma (Rev A), having some trouble getting the coin button to work at the moment - but one thing at a time!

The CR2032 battery on the board holds settings.

However, different games initialize different settings (I think), so I don't believe there's a 100% way to keep it on free play all of the time.

Thanks - I had a feeling this could be the case. The battery in the NETDIMM seems good (it's remembering the last game from the previous day) and I only recently changed the supercap and battery on the motherboard. It's remembering the time.

I need to figure out how to wire in a coin button from the sounds of it. If I've understood from reading elsewhere - I'll need a 100ohm resistor for it to do anything on the coin wire off the JAMMA connector.

100 ohm resistor trick is to spoof coin counters. You don't need to do that.

You can just wire a button to the coin input.

Thanks Nem - I have tried touching the coin input against the ground - but it doesn't do anything. Code doesn't change on the JVS test on the test menu either. I was reading somewhere I still need to fool the JVS there is a coin counter?

When I try on my Tucson logic JVS instead of the Sega JAMMA - it works.

No you don't need to have the coin counters wired up for the coin input to work.

Can you take a pic of what you have and what you're doing?

Thanks, I'll attach some photos of my IO and the 2 coin looms I have in the JAMMA harness.

Jamma pinout is here:

https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/JAMMA#Ja ... tor_pinout

If you connect Coin 1 (parts side pin 16) to Ground, it should trigger a coin input. Wire it to a momentary switch. Leaving it connected can result in coin error.

Thanks - I figured out in the end that this Sega JVS to Jamma IO board needs the coin counter - so J&8 are now touching +5 - this now makes my coin buttons work when touching ground. I realised when it went from 8000 to 0000 in the test menu that I was onto something.

I'm still waiting on resistors, but using a paper clip seems to act like one!
