ZN-1 / Bloody Roar sync?

Post by JackieHarris »

Having real trouble finding info about the Sony ZN-1, so hoping someone here can help me out.

I'm getting weird graphical glitches running a Bloody Roar PCB in my Astro - it's like it's not syncing properly, or maybe running at the wrong resolution. See pics (particularly noticeable at top of screen):

Can anyone confirm if Bloody Roar / ZN-1 in general should be 24khz, or has some other quirk I'm overlooking? Or is there likely a problem with the board?

It's definitely 15khz.

Adjusting horizontal hold does nothing?

Thanks for confirming it's 15khz.

Adjusting hold: on the monitor? I don't know, I haven't tried - the hold is fine for every other board I own, so I didn't want to mess around with it. I've never seen a game that needed it's own individual hold adjustments to get it to look okay.

My BR1 board had the first 5 or so lines skewed, but not garbled like that.
Emulation's nice when done well

Interesting, I wonder why? Maybe a peculiarity of this game, or the hardware? Hopefully other BR / ZN-1 owners can chime in.

If it's a MS8 the horizontal hold is right there on the remote. There's no harm in adjusting it. If it's a MS9, then it's on the chassis and I could see why you wouldn't want to bother.

It's possible adjusting the hold won't do a thing though. If it was skewed adjusting it would have likely fixed it, garbled probably not.

But yeah, it's a sync issue. Some boards output weird sync.

Yeah, it's an MS9, and it's garbled so I'm concluding it's weird sync like you say. Thanks for the help :)

For reference this runs flawlessly on an MS8
